No the drop kick hasn't been banned but just like bouncing the ball you can only do it when no ones is holding onto you, if you have the footy & are being tackled & the ball hits the deck you have dropped it & should be pinged

Besides the umpires we played with no soul really, Man on man vs sides like brisbane is good because they are not a fast passed team and talent wise we can beat them 1v1 but an essendon no matter how crap they are if they get 10m on their opponent in a few seconds we don't even create a contest which allows them to score quick easy goals.

The first is an incorrect disposal because dropping the ball and kicking it are two seperate actions hence dropping the ball is the first decision. Lonergan's kick is legal because it was all within the one action and a stab pass is still a legal disposal, unless of course you can show me the rule that says it isn't.

As to your comment about Essendon being crap maybe that's a reason why we keep beating you. If the Carlton coaching staff feel the same way as the fans do, and never rate Essendon and always gloat they will win, you never entertain the idea we may have the game to beat you.

Maybe your appraisal of Essendon is incorrect and we are better than you think. We're a young side and our performances have been understanably inconsistant. But we did manage to knock a number of top 8 sides off last year so I think we are better than the Blues have given us credit for.

There is a big difference between a stab pass and a drop kick. A stab pass does not touch the ground.
If you have control of the ball, an opportunity to get rid of it, then get tackled and the ball touches the ground before you kick it, that is a free kick.

A drop kick, all in 1 motion, is not the same as bouncing the ball, which is an attempt to maintain possession, not dispose of the ball.

I see what you are saying but there is no such thing as a drop handpass so that argument is mute. A drop-kick on the other hand is a legit disposal, whether intended or not. If there is a rule that says a drop-kick is an illegal disposal during a tackle you are right but until I see it I'm not convinced.

Many people, including impartial experts on the ch7 & ch9 footy shows agree with me.

If you go down to the bottom of my post I state the sides are fairly even across the ground bar the speed essendon has over us and our slight edge in the midfield.

I am not incorrect with my assessment of essendon, you beat us with pace in Man on Man contests every time we play each other. If we had a decent coach we would block the corridor at all times and slow down your play and win through our slight midfield dominance, until we do that essendon will keep beating us its just that simple.

Both channel 7 and 9 footy shows said it was NOT a free kick for incorrect disposal.

Very poor decision amongst many, most of which went against the Blues.

He dropped the ball as he was tackled and the ball hit the ground and then he kicked it through.

According to the rules of the game, it is dropping the ball.

If he had handballed it out in front of himself, then kicked it off the ground it would have been a legal goal and it would have stood.

Sorry... free kick Carlton... correct decision.

How was the Pears one not a free kick ? What about Betts being pushed in the back by Fletcher. Interpretaion seems to change from week to week, but Betts shouldn't have put himself in that position in the first place. Why didn't he go back and have a shot from 20 metres out instead of putting himself under pressure ?

The Carlton Essendon game was disgusting, but there just soo bad all round.

That Russell decision was a disgrace, the ump clearly knew it, so then he plucks some bullsh!t decison and a 50 for us to even it up, wtf is with that?

In the Geelong Freo match a player went for a speccy and was called for pushing the player out with his knees, then 5 minutes later exactly the same thing happened and there was no call. Why was there no call? Do the umpires not know the rules, is each umpire taught different rules??



There needs to be a TV show that highlights the good and bad decisons of umpires, where explainations can be given, so we know what the f*** is going on.

The only explaination for the Yarran/Pears decision would be that the ump is the dumbest person alive, there could be no other reason.

I didn't watch this match against Essendon, but I know of the last 5 or so matches against Essendon that I have viewed that they have by far received beneficial umpiring over Carlton.


If it happened in one or two games out of six or seven matches then you let it run, but it is very odd that it all worked out so well for them on a consistent basis.


I presume umpiring is no excuse in this latest match, as Carlton lost by a significant margin, but some of those close ones in recent years were matches where umpires had a significant role. I guess that can happen in any sport. You can't cry over spilt milk etc.

Look, the way i see it, the umpiring was not good for both teams, and i'm not usually one to complain about umpiring. The part that makes it look worse is the field position of our bad decisions, and they resulted in goals for Essendon. Unfortunately you have to take the good with the bad in footy sometimes, as much as it leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

If we played better and hit targets we'd have won this match regardless of the umpiring. We didn't, the rest is history. That said, Its not very often i'm vocal at the footy, but that Yarran chase down on Pears had me ropeable!

Not being petty - just being correct.

I bag the umpires as much as the next bloke (you want to sit next to me at the football and find out ) in fact most of them are prancing, prima donnas who want to be part of the action rather than just melting into the background.

But if we are going to be critical of the umpires and abuse them for not know the rules lets at least know the rules ourselves.

Calling for "Dropping the Ball" is something we should forget from our schoolyard days in the 2nd Grade.

If you are playing football you can stand in the field of play and pick the ball up and drop it to the ground as many times as you like and the umpire wont penalize you for "Dropping the Ball" - he actually cant because their is no such rule, in fact when you are bouncing the ball you are "dropping it" but the umpire does not penalize you for "Dropping the Ball".

The holding the ball rule comes into play when you are caught in possession with the ball and fail to either kick it or handball it.
