Roast Umpires

Hayden Kennedy was the most sensible umpire in the game. He was also a genuinely nice umpire and did not have an ego like some of the new age umpires.

Little prick slaughtered us every time we had him, exactly like Simon Overland. Good riddance.

Give us Shaun Ryan and Matt Stevic every week and I'll be happy.

Stevic is a little rabbit and epitomises everything wrong with umpiring. Egotistical little douche, and yes, I know from personal experiences due to his connections with our school.

Sydney had the rub, it happens. Big deal move on.
We won anyway IIRC...

the delibrate out of bounds against the sydney player was terrible... is that the rule now?
No it wasn't, it was harsh but definitely correct.
Richards tried to disguise what he was doing, but it was bloody horrible. It was not as though his momentum took him over, because he practically stopped to pick it up, then took off towards the boundary before twisting. It was so blatant Hurley who was nearest (not pressuring him at all) simply laughed and asked for the ball without even looking for the umpires decision.

We actually need to focus on the real issue...the rules.

Supporters need to put aside their differences and biases because commentators who watch basically every game (guys like Mark Fine and other commentators) and ex-umpires will tell you that umpires are being compromised by AFL directives and rule changes which make their lives much, much harder.

From everything I've seen there is nothing to suggest that they are off the mark.

I would seriously go as far as banning threads criticising umpires. General discussion is OK and there are no doubt some errors but the umpires are not the problem.

When umpires stop making awful clangers like pinging a bloke for holding the ball despite the fact he is over the boundary line and the ball is dead, then you might have an argument ot ban these threads.

You make a valid point which is the bastardisation of the rules by the AFL and the AFL's puppet umpires coach is just an imbecile.

If umpires make bad decisions then they deserve to be criticised.

And eventually we'll have no umpires, because the kids that start, give up due to the "criticism" (read abuse) they cop at junior levels. Constructive criticism behind closed doors by people who are not subjective (read supporters) is fine. What happens here and at the footy is not.

Time to move on people.

Umpires are human, they make mistakes. There are mechanisms in place to work on them, just as there are at the clubs to work through the mistakes that players make.

Whinging about umpires is pointless, unless you belive they are deliberate cheats.

People on here flame players of the club they support.

I flame impartial umpires that I have no loyalty towards.

And I'll keep doing it until they stop influencing our matches so consistently.

Will it change things? Unlikely. Should I give them a break because theyre human? Probably, and I have been at games.

Would I complain to my partner about incompetent people at work that negatively influence my performance and experience? Absolutely.

So will I complain that these guys negatively influence the performance of a club I'm effectively a shareholder of, and my experience of watching them? Absolutely

this is my view exactly.

You may as well blame the bounce of the ball; although to be fair the bounce of the ball can never be borderline incompetent.

Hahaha, you had Stevic as a teacher as well? Massive douche bag indeed. What school?

That's fine if the decisions are consistent interpretations throughout the game.

Sure, we can accept that prior is no longer needed for a HTB decision but we can't accept when one player is pinged with no prior and one player is not pinged after having four steps of prior. That has nothing to do with directives, only umpire incompetence.

Stupidest idea I've ever heard. Let's not talk about it so that it doesn't exist

It would be useful to stop the ill-informed, misdirected garbage that is allowed to fester unchecked.

Completely agree

What happens when they alwasy get the rub of the green? Is it a big deal if one side is continually favoured?

Yep, that would be a big deal.
I'm quite confident it doesn't happen that way and that it all evens out in the end, I'm guessing we differ on that point?
I felt the past 2 Sydney games that many on here were in uproar about were more even than this game, although there were a couple of shockers.

I don't however think it all evens out for particular players however. Forwards are afforded different interpretations of rules to defenders and certain players are crucified by umpires, whilst others, such as Goodes are favoured. There is no doubt about that, and whatever is causing this needs to change. But even with this, I still think it evens out club to club.
