The umpiring was horrible yesterday, but didn't cost us the game. By my count, the eagles got 4 or possibly 5 goals from blatant umpiring mistakes.

Why don't the umpires just focus on the obvious ones and let the rest go? Reflects very poorly on Gieschen and Demetriou.

I was at the game and saw the replay about 2 or 3 times on the screen. It simply didn't look like any high contact at all. I haven't had the benefit of seeing it on TV so don't know if high contact was made so I have to rely on what others tell me for the time being. For what it is worth, we did get a good run with the umpires which surprised me as Margetts was umpiring. He usually crucifies us and he and his cohorts nearly pushed Freo over the line in a game they basically were never in.

I don't feel guilty though as I remember James Hird being given the same run as Judd now gets for a number of years.
Can you tell me what years they were. Last i remember Hird criticised a ref and from then on it was all downhill. Even the next week in a best on ground peformance didnt even snag 1 brownlow vote

Yep, so much fail. :thumbsu:

Does this bring back any memories of the goal of the year?

Someone explain how the dude running along the boundary cant see this unless he has been smokin some of the green.

He may have pricked himself on Eagles syringe? He's not running backwards he's floating backwards.

Hahhahaha. Maybe the boundary line is laced with Coke. I always wondered why so many West Coast players liked to dive and slide hte ball over the line. Then all of a sudden they would come out running

it was baffling when two essendon players collided, embley out of the action just standing behind them and the umpire pays a free kick to Embley!

apparently its now illegal for essendon players to bump into one another.

the umpiring was a disgrace. worth about 10 goals to the eagles.

I definitely thought we had the rub yesterday, a lot of calls really cost you guys, but I don't think it was what won/lost the match. Kennedy's goal in the first from holding the ball was rubbish, no chance of holding the ball, but the throw in that it happened from only happened because they didn't give Fletcher's clear deliberate as a free.

Kennedy's when he went out of bounds was a shocker, I sit on the side that looks down that boundary line and none of us could believe the boudnary umpire missed that one.

The free to Embley you're referring too wasn't against the Essendon players in the contest, I believe it was LeCras who kicked the ball up to that contest, whoever it was the eagles player who kicked it up got put down after he kicked it, it was downfield. Definitely agree that you guys copped a few inexcusably bad calls though.

I'd say at mots the umpiring cost you 3/4 goals which, while that's still a ridiculous amount for professional umpiring, didn't win us/lose you the game. That's just my opinion.

If it makes you feel better I'm wearing red and black for the rest of the year just to make sure Freo don't get close to the finals.

Might not have been 10 goals, and we probably would have won because of 2 head high hits rubbing out 2 players. Most of us are pissed at the lack of consistency in the calls that were made. High fend offs paid one way not the other, hands in the back numerous times missed against Essendon players. Just take a look at Crameri. His season might be done after 2 hands in the back pushed him into the marking conest and again no free kick. We handball and get done for throws, Natnui throws and gets let go as a handball. It went on the entire match and was pretty sickening and disheartening to watch. We are the only team that has conistently had a Red hot holding the ball paid against them every week in our backline resulting in a goal yet get little to no reward for our tackling. All in all sick of watching the AFL. Hope West Coast go OK in the finals but reckon we will be lucky to field a team by then

The one that apparantly changed the entire course of the game away from Essendon towards West Coast.

That one.

I know you love him and the sun shines out of his arse, but he throws more balls than Kobe.

Just watching the game again without emotion and I have to say Essendon really threw it away.

You gave a 50 to Shuey that resulted in a goal.
You took a mark 25 out and blazed away to miss in red time.
Fletch pinpointed Hurn twice with his kickins that resulted both times in goals.
Some set shots missed didn't help either.

Agree, there were some poor moments.

What is your point exactly? Essendon giving away a stupid 50m means NicNat can throw the ball? Kennedy can run out of bounds and fend off to the face? Essendon aren't allowed to handball anymore without being judged as a throw?

You won the game, now **** off.

When anyone honestly thinks that Nic Nat isn't a chucker, then they're doing some serious trolling.

Hell, even On the Couch made a point of it, although I doubt they ever will again now that Healy's gone all gooey for Naitanui.

I'm simply pointing out that it probably wasn't the umps that lost Essendon the game.

Nope.

But they didn't help. A fair slew of Eagles goals came directly from bullshit decisions.

It doesn't alter the fact that Essendon were knackered at the end of it and lacked the fitness to see the game out, but the umpiring was utterly indefensible.

I don't think anyone is saying that the umpiring directly resulted in Essendon losing, but that it had an influence on the game that resulted in a gift run for one side.

Now that I've calmed down, I can admit that we probably would've gotten overrun due to injuries anyway.

But that doesn't excuse the 8 goals that I counted directly from unbelievably bad decisions.

That's not to mention the inexcusable ones in general play, either.

Momentum is a massive thing in footy. Don't think we would have ended up the winners with Watson going down, but they hurt our percentage. But at atleast they were consistent all game.
