Re: Umpires today

Ruined what should have been an awesome, hard-fought contest.

Credit to the boys for not letting it frustrate them too much. Just kept playing the game, albeit in a somewhat scrappy fashion.

Re: Umpires today

I'm sick of it. Every game we go into we know there is going to be very poor umpiring. What can you say. At the end of the game today the bombers supporters stopped singing the song to boo the umpires. You don't want to feel like all we do is complain about umpiring but they are making it very difficult to not complain.

It was strange but the last qtr the sole focus of the game was on the umpires. Maybe coz we had the game won but no one seemed to care what was happening in the game, just what the umpires when doing.

It was dissapointing that it took the gloss of a win for us, but I think its built up frustration from the crappy umpiring that seems to have gone against us all year. I dont think the umpires have been abused by the winning teams fans this much before.

how many free's west coast end up with? I saw at 3qrt time they had 25 to our 14.
Umps ruined the game, nothing more to say then that, if they didnt blow the whistle so much would have been a top hard fought game.

I didnt notice this much until Harry O was blatantly caught holding the ball on anzac day and the umps didnt call it. Then today seeing the unco NickNat not getting caught when he clearly had prior opp. It really is becoming a joke.

I've raised it before.. but seriously when is our club going to start flexing its muscles like collingwood do at league level? There needs to be a meeting NOW with AFL/Umpires to sort this out. Getting out of hand TBH. So blatant that my original theory of a betting scandal starts to make sense. Nic Nat wouldn't even know what a handball is or why you would bother when its far easier to toss the ball..

As I said in a different thread.. how can you lay 60 odd tackles and not a single one results in holding the ball?? Just boogles the mind and seems the club is doing nothing about it.

We won the game which is at least better than syd and carl but they tried their best.. right up until the end.. to give WC the choc's! Having said that at least WCE didn't score a goal out of a kick that hits the post and diverts to 3rd slip..

if you watch the game again and take the whining crowd out of it, there really wasn't that much to get upset about.

while i know what you're saying about NN getting caught without a legal handball...you'll notice that this happens a lot and umpires let the play go. it's nothing out of the ordinary.

we got a few that went our way, but nothing that significantly impacted the result of the game.

listened to the 1st 5-10 minutes on the radio & quickly got to a 5 count for frees to wc & just thought 'ffs here we go again'

havent had a good look at the game yet but didnt come across as a balanced effort from the umps

& that'd be fine if they applied it consistently, but they dont, cant recall which bomber got pinged later in the game for the same 'incorrect disposal' they had been letting go all game & of course the crowd gets feral

I have had my say on the umpire bashing side of things but i have to say the holding the ball decisions can defy belief at some stages and i am talking acorss the comp and not specifically Essendon games, and i will say this extends to the VFL and TAC as well.
The amount of times players simply drop the ball or throw it is becoming a joke and it is how the umpires are told to interpret the decisions and this bloody incidental contact with the ball forcing it loose.
It is now officially a joke, you can get caught under a pack with 7 blokes on you and not be able to move and you are done for holding the ball but if you somehow manage to throw it or drop it it is ok
Now i do not mind when they ping blokes who do pull the ball in under and it is clear but the rest is a joke.

The AFL needs to have a bloody good look at it ! I saw 4 live games and 1 on TV over all levels(TAC to AFL) this weekend and there would have been around 30 decisions i saw that should have been called throwing the ball, holding the ball but where not.
It is filtering down to local footy and the local umpires are copping a lot of stick when in fact it is how they are being told to umpire.

One would think that with the standard going backwards the umpires coach would be questioned but nothing will happen because Fat Andrew and his side kick dufus boy never admit they are wrong about anything!!

The dropping the ball is killing the game. Franklin kicked a goal yesterday where he clearly dropped the ball and kicked it off the ground. That is incorrect disposal. Nic Nat has it going on, on a completely different level.

dropping the ball but not having prior opportunity seems to be play on. As I've said to PP I don't like this at all but it helps the flow or some shit.

Throws can be very hard to play. if the ump can't get a good sight on the hands he can't be 100% it's a throw so he rightly calls it play on. This could be averted a bit by letting boundary umps call throws - eg have two people trying to watch the hands - but aside from that there's not much they can do if the player does a good job of hiding it. must be getting to the stage when they expect nic nat to throw it though

when abouts? losing my memory i think. i can't really remember too many specific decisions from today. As a whole I thought they were poor but can't really remember specific calls. I'll watch it again some time (the bigpond links are up already) so I'll be better then. They were pretty poor towards WC too though. just a bad day all over.

thought the ball was just in for that very flunky goal though and Jetta was silly for that 50 late on(or smart maybe. he was about to play on so WC may have had a free man straight ahead or something.)
