happy to second that with the proviso that all commenting must have watched the replay

This is why I suggested 24 hrs notice - Watching the replay can shed a different light on the Ump's performance.

i'm very rarely one to complain about inconsistent or poor umpiring, as i've always understood and accepted that it is part of the package.....having said that i simply cannot understand the popular notion that is constantly put out there in the media in particular, that umpiring "is such a hard job".

A few years back i had a long term injury and umpired a number of reserves games at local level (which is more scrappy and harder to adjudicate), and came out wondering just where this commen perception had come from.....

....truth is if you have a good feel for the game, umpiring is sooooo much easier than playing, and is overall a straight forward concept.

Unfortunately getting umpires that REALLY understand the spirit of the game game is like finding a needle in a haystack due to what i suspect comes down to a number of cultural reasons that are extreemely unlikely to change any time soon.

If i had my way, i'd make afl umpires fulll time professionals all on a wage of 300K - 600K per annum minimum, and make it manditory for all applicants to have played a minimum of 100-150+ games of senior footy at a decent level - i guarantee you if the incentive was high enough then there'd be no shortage of applicants.

Not sure i could think of a better way for the afl to spend OUR money tbh.....

I don't think the decisions favored any one team for the duration of the match - but there needs to be a big upheaval into umpire interpretation. It's far too inconsistent.

Thought we got the rub of the green with the umpires - but the two decisions in the third quarter gave Collingwood momemtum

- Jolly/Hardingham marking contest in the goal square
- Krakouer kick off the ground was kicking in danger.

It is ridiculous Essendon get a great run, then Collingwood, then all over the place.
It's shit hey! No doubt you guys got the rub of the green early, but obviously to appease everyone we had to get given the soft ones to even it up.

Jolly's free kick to put them in front was enough for me.

And the holding the ball decisions are a ****in joke.
THose ****ing holding the ball decisions are based on how long the umpire wants to hold off blowing his whistle.

Couldn't agree more. Those two decisions hurt but overall we got the better end of the stick I thought.

Collingwood handed so many goals through pathetic umpiring that it cost us the lead and any momentum. They kicked enough to deserve the win but I counted about 8 goals they got at crucial times from rubbish errors today. ****ing disgrace and Harry O is the biggest cheat in the game. Apart from that, we deserved to lose with our last quarter effort.

more like how long the umpires can pinch hold their own balls then have to blow the whistle to relieve the pain. Not just holding the ball there were so many players tacklred and not disposing correctly not paid.

I almost lost it at the Jolly/Hardingham decision. Jolly may as well have been raping him yet in some bizarre twist of fate the umpire decided to penalise Hardingham. Absolute joke. I'm sick of how the ferals get a free ride from the umpires every frickin week.

Coming back from the game, livid as ****.

All I can remember is that ****ing Jolly free kick where both were holding equally, and the fact that they got about 10 free's in a row in the final qtr.

WTF. We would've lost anyway, but geez it's terrible sometimes.

Top team effect ! Any doubt , pls check geel, coll. Longer in the tackle, swayed by the crowd (esp coll). 2 biggest factors. Top team/crowd. We had our share in `99/`00/`01. Would love to see pie fans deny it.

You do realize that in the last 2 & 1/2 years, Collingwood are in the bottom 3 as far as free kicks given?

All I can remember is that ****ing Jolly free kick where both were holding equally

Once a defender takes his eyes off the ball & inteferes with the forward going for the ball, it's an automatic free kick. It has been all year. The only surprise of this decision is it took the umpire so long to pay it.
