If the whistle isn't blown for a ball up within the first couple of seconds of a tackle it will be holding the ball.

The rule is a joke, clearly officiated by people that have never played the game.

It's sad to think that statement is about the most accurate description I've heard for modern day HTB.

Did they bin the rule that the person pinning the ball in would be the one pinged, and not the person that went and got the ball in the first place? I can not recall seeing that get paid ever.

The worst decision was to allow a centre bounce as Colyer was getting carried off the ground. The only possible reason we didn't call the stretcher out was that it was still in use because of Prismall being injured. It left us a man down as Collingwood got a goal from the centre bounce. The tackle that O'Brien laid on Colyer was pretty ordinary, was very dangerous & Colyer got a nasty injury because of it. Obviously the AFL want the head protected but what about a players leg?

C'mon? Really?

There was absolutely no reason not to bounce the ball. Yeah, it sucked being a man down and if roles were reversed I would've been pissed, but them the breaks (pun intended).

And to call the tackle ordinary is a bit ordinary yourself, it was just unlucky.

PS. I'm not a fan of Harry O, yes, I see his scragging of opponents every week, I just have to like him because he's in the Black & White.
 
It's a bit of a silly rule, though; surely they should allow flexibility to call time on if a player's being carried off. What's the difference between a stretcher and three or four officials chairing him?

He still can't impact on the play.

That's the way I feel about Milne. Always brings a smile to my face abusing the crap out of him.

For Harry O it is genuine hatred. I honestly cannot stand him and it makes me seriously angry when he gets away with his scragging and cheating yet he claims to be the moral messiah outside of football.

Arggggggggghhh! Just typing this right now enrages me!

It's a real pity the saints couldn't get 1 more point in the first grand final because I would have loved to see the media lay into Harry for bottling it. He was worse than Leon.
 
Dont have any problem with the way that O'Brien plays the game - Not the only player who skilfully scrags within the rules - Silvagni was F/B of the century playing this way.

Was distinctly unimpressed with his tackle on Colyer - more vigorous than required.

Do know that Maxwell cleaned up McGinnity in a pre-season game - WC waited two years for retribution - Embley with a well executed bump ( within the rules ) which punctured Maxwell's lung.

EFC needs to be patient and wait until the opportunity presents O'Brien in a vulnerable position in the future.

Rules didn't allow scragging in 1897 and don't allow scragging in 2011.

You suggest that O'Brien is cheating - Logically if no other players plays in the same manner/degree as O'Brien that means he is favored by the umpires - Think you get the inference !
