You suggest that O'Brien is cheating - Logically if no other players plays in the same manner/degree as O'Brien that means he is favored by the umpires - Think you get the inference !
O'Brien cheats.

The tactics that he uses are, by both definition and interpretation, against the rules of the game.

Whether he gets called on it by the umpires or not doesn't change that.

Others get called for it, but not always.

What are you inferring?

It would & has been a free kick regardless of whether it is or isn't a Collingwood player all year. Once the defender, who is running back with the flight of the ball, takes his eyes off the ball & impedes/interferes with the marking forward, the umpires will pay a free kick. It has been paid all year & is not an inconsistent ruling.

Denying it would be denying reality.

I can say without a doubt if that was Hurley no free kick would have been paid. Man handled, arm chopped, pushed in the back, high contact all year and they dont pay them.

The sickest free kick i saw in this whole game was jollyputting his head down then running into a stationary Stanton and getting a free kick for high contact. That almost made me Gag.

They have crucified us over the past month, I scream louder at their decisions than than against the opponent.

OX has been giving it to them all week on SEN also

It was no different to the freekick that Monfries received in the 3rd quarter on the MCC HFF.

He must get favorable treatment from the umpires.

Do you know why ?

I don't know, maybe they like him personally, or they assume he's doing the right thing (both factors in Judd getting the red carpet treatment).

Or maybe they just don't see it with some players. Hurley could be placed in a headlock and not given a free kick, yet Monfries could be looked at the wrong way and given a free kick in front of goal.

You'd have to ask the umpires and Jeff Gieschen about that.

* thread comes full circle *

MAte go back and watch that one on replay. Monfries did not duck or do anything to contribute to the free kick - just a bad call by the ump. Jolly on the other hand stuck his head down and ran into stanton. Totally different free kick.

Jolly is the one who had his back to the ball. You'd have to be stupid not to realise that. It clearly was a free kick to Hardingham. Those are the ones that grate the most.

Watched over the first quarter vs. Collingwood again, as it's been mentioned that we got the rub early. I've listed the errors both ways that I could pick out and it pretty much comes out even. Collingwood copped the blatant mistakes (which would give the perception that we got the rub), but we got a few more less obvious ones missed our way. Some of these I slowed down just to make sure I got it right.

This is just my opinion, and not saying I'm 100% but in my view it was fairly even in the first quarter.

Collngwood's way:
-Ben Johnson received an incorrect free kick from Colyer for a high tackle that was only one hand on his deltoids (upper arm), not on top of the shoulders or across the collarbone or neck. 1Q14:47
-Sidebottom hand in the back on Hardingham in goalsquare to edge him under the ball then kicks a goal. 1Q9:27
-Sidebottom deliberately shephards Hardingham out of a marking contest in goal square at 1Q2:07
-Jolly tacked by Hardingham near Essendon's goals. Drops ball, no free kick to Essendon but we luckily still get the goal 1Q1:07

Essendon's way:
-Cloke front on contact by Myers. Should've been a free kick to Pies.
-Davis pushed in the back by Crameri in Essendon forward 50. Should've been a free kick to Pies.
-Luke Ball pushed in the back by McVeigh but we get a free kick for holding the ball. 1Q1:43

The umpiring in general is crap and it is just part of the game that we have to live with. There were decisions that went our way that were terrible and vice versa. I mean seriously, that deliberate out of bounds against the Sydney player in our forward line where he piked up the ball literally on the line and took 1 single step and the deliberate against Dyson out of our defense. Some umpires just have no feel for the game.

An example is the Saints Freo game last night after there was a bit of push and shove and the umpire yells out to 2 players when they were running back to the center of the ground, "Free kicks are going easy at the moment boys, keep off each other." I mean ffs you don't say that, you should never say that. You only pay a free kick when it is there and unfortunately I think some umpires are just looking to pay the next free kick so they can be a part of the game.

What the **** were the 4 holding ball decisions that weren't called in the 2nd quarter? The 2nd Jetta tackle was especially ******ed as Mattner had 4 steps of prior! Are these umpires ******ed? Then in the 3rd an Essendon player gets pinged with no prior! And a Sydney player gets pinged without ever having possession of the ball! **** me sideways!!!

You said Deltoids, wow so did he get both or just one, regardless, If I hear an umpire pay a free for above the Deltoids I will spew up a la Terry Wallace, why did you name yourself Mumbo Jumbo????
