Umpiring - please explain

Yes, the umpiring was subpar, but the same group of people get on the whole "man these umpires suck" bandwagon every week and it grows as tiresome as quickly as people calling for Ratts head. I don't want to wade through piles of "umpires are shit man" posts to get to a few constructive posts.

Are we really that delusional that we need to waste hours talking about poor umpiring standards which are known to everyone, when we could be talking about why we have failed so abysmally this year???

We do lose the games ourselves but man the umpiring tonight was incredibly bad. Even if we had won I'd be saying the same thing, it was that blatantly bad.

it's almost as tiring for us 'supporters' who believe in the club game after game, week after week and year after year to have to put up with morons who come along and have a nice little hidden agenda bagging the club and wanting people sacked or delisted or traded after a loss.

Some people support their club with a passion that others seem to lack. I'm not saying that you do... but geez... if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... what must it be?

I've never known one group of supporters to be so inclined to blame umpires for their shortcomings. It's quite embarrassing really. seriously, channel ur energy in to questioning why we can only turn up to play one week out of every 4 on average. The fact is that with the atrocious umpiring, the carlton players could not pressure the Norf players for fear of getting a free paid against them.

Why cant people understand that when you ask for pressure intensity from the players, they have to be able to be allowed to apply that intensity. If everytime they lay a finger on a Norf player, then they get pinged for a free, the players start to hang off a little and are scared to put the pressure on for fear of getting a free paid against them.

When Petrie gets frees that are not there, Jamo and Hendo are afraid to put body on body contact, so other carlton players have to roll back to help out, thus leaving Norf players on their own in their own forward line.

Come on people, how many frees did Norf get in their forward line, whilst we did not get one free in our forward.

Add to that the injuries in this game alone, also their accuracy and you cant blame the players for giving up and letting the margin blowout.

FFS, we won the clearances, we won the uncontested possessions, we won the contested possession, we matched them in forward 50's, and we had just 3 scoring shots less than them.

All those blaming Ratts for moving Hendo, have no idea what they are talking about, we still nearly matched them in scoring shots, proving that we didnt really need Hendo foward as we were still able to score.

Worst thing was not necessarily that the umpiring was plain bad, can think of one time where a north player handballed clearly and it was given as holding but it was the inconsistancy that stood out. jamison out bodies opponant, dumb free, happens uo the other end and nothing, guy pushes gibbs out, mark and goal and no free. If this happened to a side in a grand final i would be be ashmed to admit i followed aussie rules. Pathetic effort umps.

You're right, it isn't rocket science. Playing body on body, shoulder to shoulder with zero holding or pushing in the back on the VAST MAJORITY of their forward line "frees" are not free kicks. As for the Judd incident, do you see anyone claiming that what he did was within the rules? Nope. Unlike the flogger North supporter Chad, and yourself clearly, we are actually able to admit when one of our players does something that warrants a free against them.

While we're on the subject, Chad, just piss off will you? If there's one thing that's worse that a team "winning" by being handed a million imaginary frees, it's when a fan of the "winning" team comes on to the other teams board and tries to make excuses and brings up one incident that actually went against you as somehow justifying the landslide of horse-sh*t calls that went your way. Did Judd deserve to give away a free kick when he grabbed the blokes arm like that? Yep. Just the same way that your guys didn't deserve half of the calls that were gifted to them tonight.

You just claimed that "most of the fantasy frees were actually real" and that we only were screwed over once, which "overall evens it out". The first 50 metre penalty in the first 30 seconds was rubbish - however I think that is a far as it goes in terms of Carlton getting screwed -

How was that North player who was tackled in the 3rd quarter on the defensive 50 line and handballs it away, but ump calls holding the ball? - Umpires are going to make, and have always made, bad decisions (hey, just like players do) - By complaining too much about the umpires you are ignoring the underlying problems with Carlton's game plan - The umpires did not lose this game for Carlton; bad umpiring decisions are not worth 10 goals.
