My issue has never been the free kick count per se. It's the inconsistency in relation to us. If the free kick count is 15-5 against us and we are playing like shit, being led to the ball, being sloopy and the frees are all legit, I have no issue with it.
In that first quarter we DOMINATED play and received something like 1 free kick. Maybe even none. How is that even logistically/physically possible? We were dominating play. Richmond also laid more tackles due to their chasing so much. You telling me they didn't lay a single high tackle? Hold the man a little too long? Maybe push in the back?
Get stuffed.
I'd just like to see the club keep a background record of umpiring decisions (and non decisions) and to take note of what they are and if any trends emerge with individual umpires or in general. As a standard they should also keep an eye on equivalent decisions across the league by round and by season.
So then we get a sense if Cloke is hard done by compared to other decisions on key forwards, whether they be FF or FA decisions. And not just him. I was not so much aggravated about Sunday's game by the Cloke decisions but stuff further afield.
As per Swooop 's post, I reckon we get a poor showing from the umpires because it's easy to go the hack on Collingwood knowing how much we are reviled in the football community and how little support we will garner from the broader footy world. Well f*ck them.
If I'm wrong, fine. But I think we are so badly done by with the umpires over the long duration that I'd like to see us keeping a spotlight on decisions. There needs to be a group dedicated to this stuff because it will cost us as it did I believe on Sunday.
Remember the 2010 GFII when Leigh Brown was mauled by the umpires after we complained to the umpires about the 3rd man up in GFI?
These guys need to be put on notice and highlighted when they **** up. And I mean publicly, sick of the dross.
