I've watched our last game again with particular attention to the officiating.
And I feel this is a game that we can put the men in green to the test, as we did win it.
All I ask is consistency in the interpretation of our, let's face it loosely written, rules.
How many times during the game were our players pinned for htb? The whistle was fast whenever we touched the ball and it spilled out of the contest. And ough it took more time, if we were tackled in the ground you just knew what the decision would be.
Compare this to the way htb was officiated for our opponents.
A player is spun 360, TWICE, the ball spills loose from a very dubious handball and it is called play on.
I have seen at least three incidences, where the WC player has dived at the ball effectively pulling it to themselves, yet the whistle is very quick not allowing the time that is needed for a htb decision, or for the ball to clear.
This is inconsistant, this is dead set cheating.
And I'm only up to 3/4 time!

To say it was bad is okay. To say it is cheating is delusional.

That was a bad game umpired from a West Coast perspective, they are used to far more free kicks than their opposition.

The extra ten effectively contested possessions in their midfield from the whistle gives that extra drive.

Are you calling the umpires cheats or is there a much bigger conspiracy going on that we need to be let in on.

Went to the WC board yesterday to peruse their game day thread (mainly to see what their take on Darcy Moore was). The amount of whining about the umpires was phenomenal. They're so genuinely used to being kissed on the dick by the umpires at home that in a reasonably fairly judged game they swear that the umpires are cheating for not giving their poor mistreated players a free kick every time an opposition player gets within 2 ft of them.

The 720 spin was galling but I don't think they were too bad overall. A few missed throws perhaps, but the umpire was just unsighted on the wrong side of the contest.

Didn't notice the umpiring when watching the match, seemed fine
I did, thought we were getting the rub of the green in the first quarter, and then equally inconsistent both ways thereafter.

I thought the umpiring was generally pretty good, but one howler I was filthy at came in the last quarter.

I can't make a gif because I can't find a youtube video of the last quarter less than 30 minutes, but it occurs at 1:46 of this link.

Seriously can't understand how that can be called play on. If that's not holding the ball, then I've never seen a holding the ball decision.

To assume that exotic betting markets won't get to our part-timers is naive in the extreme.
Exotic markets on AFL have such low limits, and bookmakers have such unbridled freedom to restrict winning punters, that I feel confident no umpire would risk a jail term for a couple of hundred dollars.

You say the umpires are cheats???

Free Kick Hawthorn.
.......and 50 metres......in stark contrast to the latitude afforded Hawks in general and senior Hawks in particular.

Do you remember Hodge on the mark last year when Ablett had received what he thought was a dubious free kick? He was saying to the umpire something along the lines of: oh yes, that would be right, got to look after f$$king Gazza.

Cloke would have been reported and had two fifties for far less

I don't know I would go so far as to say the umpires cheat. I would have to say, though, that the interpretations vary so greatly that I really struggle to understand what the rules are sometimes. Regretfully, the interstate teams playing at home seem to get very lenient treatment, as does Hawthorn in things like encroaching the mark and incorrect disposal. So many times these days I just say, I do not understand the rules anymore!
