Umps weren't great but Collingwood leadership and coaching are to blame. We had near 2 whole quarters to stop the bleed and only seemed to respond when 2 goals down with 6 minutes to go.

Yeah the coaching is to blame.

Glad many others bumped this saved me searching for it. Clarkson said it best last night... DISGRACEFUL!!! Very clearly 2 sets of holding the ball rules on display today and further most of our frees were the ones they give simply to pretty the stats sheet... you know those ones which don't impact the game as we've already got the ball and cleared the previous contest.

The umpires definitely won that game for them.But just wait for the A.F.L to conduct a 'review' and say that all the free kicks were there.

They will justify all the bad and non calls. Nothing will happen but IMO the umpires should be held accountable. I would say that a couple of those scumps weren't AFL standard.

Buckley's reactions in the coaches box said it all from yelling, swearing and chucking water bottles to wry grins and asking what they were for with a laugh.

Well you can look for any excuse you want, but our game plan was brilliant, first half. Then the players stopped. I didn't see any umpires chipping it around while Melbourne got their defenders set. Nor did I see any sharking Grundy again and again and again.

Why couldn't we get up for the contest until the game was near lost?

The decision against Greenwood when Hunt was pinning the ball to him was disgusting. HTB in our forward line in the last quarter was slightly suspect.

Our game plan was solid and we had plenty of time on the clock to work back into the game. Some momentum sapping umpiring absolutely destroyed any chance we had. The players weren't able to get back and cover the ground when such umpiring turnovers gave the Dees space to work with. Grundy may get his hands on the ball 1st but unfortunately he puts it down the throat of the opposition mids.

If you look at my posting history you will find that I have probably rarely if ever posted regarding umpiring.
Today was the first time in my life that I watched a game and honestly believed there was cheating going on.
Sure I have bitched about a bad call here or there but never and I mean never have I felt that there was cheating going on. I am convinced that there was today.
I am not making an excuse for the loss, otherwise I would have posted stuff like this after every close loss. Today there was blatantly something sinister going on.

Holding the ball is nothing short of an absolute joke.

Hibberd is allowed to be chased down and throw the ball, but if a Collingwood player is jumped on immediately by 3 players at the bottom of a pack - free kick Melbourne.

That holding the ball free against De Goey, only to have Bugg (?) have an eternity to get rid of it and then get fairly tackled before the argument ensued about whether he got a handball off.

Guess what, commentators, it doesn't matter. That's what the "prior" in prior opportunity means.

One decision and one non-decision in the second quarter? summed today's cheating up perfectly from me, the 'pies player was pinged for holding the footy the moment he got the ball, Melbourne ran forward their player was tackled after 4-5 steps, ball spills free he gets a late punch onto a loose footy umpires call play on and they get a shot on goal.

They kicked 3.4 to our 0.0 from direct free kicks. Others that resulted in possession then a goal? At least another 3-4.

There were two sets of rules out there today.
