Weird stat I wasn't expecting. Total frees AGAINST this season, no surprise 1st. BUT total frees FOR this season we sit 3rd. What's that tell us? Are our games in general just way over adjudicated?
you must be looking at the wrong stats, we're dead last in frees for, currently 68 frees behind first which is adelaide

Yeah I just refreshed the stats I was looking at and it now shows that. Oops!

Richo’s dummy spits were legendary , the free kick count to him was super low.

Jack Riewoldt – early career modelled him self on Richo , the free kick situation , similar

Jack Riewoldt – recent years , his onfield behaviour is very different and he does get frees now

Nothing new there , passes the pub test

If our coaches and players say stuff in the media or social media about the umps we will get hammered

For decades Collingwood got preferential treatment from the umps , I think it was about 10 years ago somebody pulled together stats that showed topping the free kick counts , pretty much every year , for a long period and during that time was plenty of ordinary years for Collingwood

The footy commentators and jurnos kept asking “how can that be ?” until some other story came along . I reckon it did the trick

Another time somebody produced a stat the 4 Selwood brothers got 25% of all head high frees against all other registered players. That circulated in the media for a week and they started slowing up on paying frees when Selwood would leading in with his head

The Grimmes Charlie Cameron holding the jumper farce

I reckon it was us the supporters bringing up the pics showing Cameron with fist fulls of jumper

Calmed things down

When Lil Gaz was leaping in the air to smash guys in the back and side of the head ( # 1 get off , # 2 get off) the public out came with #3 , the weight of public opinion

The AFL and umps will react when they think the weight of public opinion is against them

On this site and others we need to keep posting the pics , keep posting the stats

Sooner or later commentators and journos will talk or ask questions

And then a month or so later things might quietly change

But our coaches and players have to keep their mouths shut and let us do the work

Absolutely. If people think they don’t look at the free kick count at half time they are clueless. That game on the weekend was right up there with the cheating farce when we played Geelong late in 2017 at the cow paddock.
I was there, one of the worst umpired games, even my Tiger friend who is normally quiet about officials went right off.
After that game ,Richmond made a stance against the AFL and won our first flag since 1980.
Then rulebooks were changed.

The fact the AFL comes out and makes threats about talking about umpiring shows they have lost all respect . Lethleen (st Kilda’s CEO ) and Benny aren’t dills . I strongly doubt Ratten and Dimma’s comments would have been made if clubs hadn’t already tried to discuss issues behind closed doors and been dismissed.
Making such a public statement is a poor reflection on the AFL
I have noticed this year after games where we were shafted, umpires have been interviewed on radio to say how great they are as a deflection and a great excuse to do it again.

we might need to bite the bullet and start having training sessions on free milking like every other team does
No Tiger would get frees if they did exactly what Selwood does,”play on, play on” would be the likely scenario.
It’s the interpretations that kill us.

Even when we develop plays that are within the rules S.Hocking and the AFL change the rules to nulify them. Like 666 and stand.

I would like to commend the umpiring this evening. Across the four quarters, the differential was 2-4 free kicks. Not once did I see a call that was even remotely incorrect. Almost all 50/50 calls I saw were correctly commentated. I'm still in shock. I barely noticed the umpires.

Why are we not the beneficiaries of unbiased umpiring ?

If any answers are along the lines of "It is the way we play", let me remind you that in most of the games we have lost this year, the summary involved words to the effect of "The Tigers were beaten at their own game"...

I'm now convinced that there is not a HUGE issue with the umpiring standard, but it highlights there are issues that are introduced when we are playing.

the issue is they have been directly told by AFL management to ream us out of a 3peat

And there ^^^ is the whole crux of the situation.

The AFL, after all it's work to even out the competition, see our success over the last 4 years as their failure.

What the Tigers have done is the antithesis of the AFL strategy and because we've been so good and not given another team a sniff the AFL will do whatever they have to do to level the competition.

This includes wholesale rule changes to directly inhibit our dominance.

Draft compensation tampering eg: Ellis

The slapping of fines to reduce our soft cap.

And most significantly the blatant instruction to umpires to not let us 'of the leash'

It’s actually insane... I forgot about the Brandon Ellis compo pick, that was the start of all this handicapping us

2021 flag will be our best yet!

Jack got 14 free's for the year last year, Taylor Walker before last week already had 14, with many other key forwards in the 10-13 range. Jack got his 5th free last week. Walker would have more frees than our entire forward line this year I'd reckon.

Frees only go one way and if by chance Jack or Tom get a free the commentators talk about staging and it was soft etc

Playing devil's advocate here, but Tex has won a lot of frees for winning holding the ball inside the forward 50 this year. I reckon about half of those frees for the year have been from those in the first few weeks of the season.

I haven't followed closely. Jack is no slouch on the tackling, but never gets rewarded, ever.

Watched the colon wood and gocats game yesterday and fmd the can't s get away with murder. I hate colon wood but even I could see how bs the umpiring was...anyone else watch this game and think jesus h christ they can throw or drop the ball all they like not to mention Rowan and Hawkins blatant push in the backs at virtually every marking contest...WTF. hockings fix is on...

Humans have emotions ,since RFC starting becoming a force, the umpires have let their emotions take over their decisions.

The same time media wanted rule changes because they knew how good we are.
Point one. There is a thing that effects humans decision making particularly when under pressure. Unconscious bias.this absolutely effects every single umpire and is scientifically proven to influence how an umpire adjudicates frees foe both teams in a game. Just say 80% of umpires support a team other than Richmond. There is no way that the bias they bring in to their job as umpires will not effect the way they view rfc and frees. To get around this umpires should have to disclose who they supported growing up and their should be conflict of interest rules in place to mitigate this.
Point two. The media actively present their ideas and theories on how other teams can beat us. Nearly every rfc game I have watched this year has involved the dunderheads plotting and scheming our downfall. I cannot remember this level of cooperative effort across the "media" landscape in all my time of watching footy.

Man AFL is a much more enjoyable game when the umpiring is decent.

Still wasn't great at times, but it went both ways - maybe if anything we got a better run of the green. But based on previous weeks it was light-years. Game was much more free flowing and barely thought i hate the game once - which is a first for the year

Wonder why at this point of time the umpiring suddenly became fair. Was it the three guys in charge doing what they are supposed to do (applause if so) or something that Geelong bastard Hocking had to grudgingly make happen?

With the obvious threat of worksafe and human rights violations if the current farce continued , gee the umpiring was bang on today. Glad we settled our differences with HQ
So I’m not the only one who thinks that there have been some suggestions made, next week will be the answer
