Have just watched a clip of that fifty!
It’s impossible to justify on any level.
Do they want the game to be played without any passion or emotion at all?
I'm getting close to not watching. Its every game now. Might get involved in local footy. The AFL is a joke.

Is it my imagination or are the umpires not paying many free kicks in today's games so far, I would be happy if they kept that up, but fear that they will do this and then go bezerk in future.

Eddie wants aflx with his putrid and delusional proposal.

Why make Eddie's changes when we know that things were pretty good up until 2019-2020. Aflx is what these campaigners want and they'll **** the peoples game over to get what they want. That's my conspiracy tin foil hat brain speaking. I hope im wrong.

I think it was necessary to bring in the "protect the head" rules. Including the concussion protocols and the medical sub.
AFL trying to avoid legal action down the track - Shane Tuck, Danny Frawley, Greg Williams, etc.
This creates a tricky umpire interpretation for "ducking" as first priority needs to be protect the head.
Also tricky for what constitutes a "dangerous tackle". What was formerly a perfect technique of pinning an arm and spinning a player into the ground can now get you suspended.
Those were necessary rule changes and came with their fair share of inconsistencies - eg player receiving a free when they barrel head first into a stationary player. But they seem to be generally accepted now, even if players like Selwood can exploit them.

I don't see any of the other rule changes being necessary - should only be made if they are going to make things simpler so decisions are more consistent.

The one on cotchin was such bullshit

I used to roar for a contested mark, a great tackle, a great snapped goal.

Listen to the crowd at an AFL game now. The loudest noises are cheers for deliberate out of bounds, for a player moving on the mark, a ball not returned properly after a free kick, a player knocked over after taking a mark etc.

Is that what we want footy to be? Screaming at the umpire to pay a technical free kick or 50m penalty. FML.

Concur 100%
Finally it has dawned on Robbo how stupid the stand rule is.Can’t believe it took until the 50 that resulted in the Grundy goal for him to come to this realisation.
Walkley on the other hand continues to peddle the AFL line
Fly Mcrae
Let it be known pretty much where he stands as well

So this week Adelaide are undisciplined………….the AFL is taking the piss

some bloke on reddit said dogs gave away 4 free kicks in the first 10 mins then only 6 for the entire rest of the match that is insane lol

I think the rule should be if the player with the ball motions to either kick or handpass and doesn't do so, the umpire should signal play on. This trick now that the player with the ball does it to catch the other player out and get a 50m penalty is nonsense IMHO.

Just get rid of stand rule next week

mcguire's changes r a joke. people get upset at 1 change & he wants 2 make wholesale changes. there's a reason all of 'em were once in vogue and were dropped. stfu mcgiure.

Just rewatching 2019 PF
Just further reiterates what a pox on the game the stand rule is.the good players are still taking on the corridor. This set the sherrin free garbage that some in the media were running with was absolute crap

I thought they were going to start paying incorrect disposal this year, all I've seen is players getting pinged for holding the man after the player just lets go of the ball.

I don't like the dragged in rule either penalises the only player going for the ball, often the opposition actually have hold of the ball to hold it in.

Get rid of every rule brought in this century and we will be on our way to having a decent game again (I can live with the head high rules for obvious treasons).

what the **** are we doing about this ? what are we gonna do to stop this injustice. we should actually sue these campaigners but we'll do nothing. we'll just cop it sweet. the richmond way

The “set the Sherrin free” garbage was already happening. The game was changing as sides with slow ball movement (Collingwood, West Coast, Geelong) were not having success against fast ball moving side like us.
Port, Brisbane and a little later Melbourne were playing fast footy and looked the likely next wave of contenders.

They didn’t need to change a thing. The game was correcting itself as it usually does, given time.

Local footy is a lot easier to watch these days, as it is more like the way footy should be played. Only issue is AFL also influences local leagues with some of there stupid rules. In my eyes go back to basic decisions & let the game work its own path into the future.
If people don't attend AFL games, the sponsorship dollar will fall, then so will player payments & will flow through to footy departments. If that was to happen, then you will have a second rate competition. Unfortunately the ones at the top are arrogant & way to stubborn to listen to supporters anymore, that also includes the so called media.
I was very pleased to see the head of umpiring for one of the vic local leagues (SFNL) put a post up on the league social media pages stating that his umpires would not be implementing any of the new “dissent” rules as they would rather engage with players in a respectful manner to explain decisions where possible. A common sense approach which I’m sure the clubs in that comp liked reading.

Nice to see an Umpire, more of them should do this

When he was describing how the ruck rules work, and that if a player passes the ball......

All well and good but look at the bounces where the ball goes to one side or the other not straight up, and the both ruckmen are galloping to where the ball is?

Most supporters now just hope their team get some free kicks, as a lot are nonsense, even the players don't know which way they are going a lot of the time.

I do feel sorry for the umps a little, as I assume most of them don't even lik the new rules and interpretations themselves, but are told to umpire to them...

However, SunshineBoy is right, since when has there ever seen so much focus on the umps in the history of the game???
