Who are the 3 umpires for the Blues game? I need to prepare my voodoo dolls for when they start to ream us.
Wear a nappy and bring a few spares for the last quarter.

I hope I am not going off too early here. But I believe a little celebration is in order…..

We have zoomed up the free kick differential rankings….to 18th. 🥳🥳🥳

It must be tough for the daylight fans to watch us go past them under a triple stranglehold. Daylight previously had a dead set mortgage on 18th place on the free kick differential ladder.

MR you seem a learned chap with a penchant for statistics.

I posted this question previously, but have you ever come across 50m penalties per game? There's a fox sports stats page that provides the total amount of 50m penalties conceded per player and per team, but that doesn't mean much on it's own.

I'm in the process of normalizing results based on free kicks, and the hidden 50m penalties stat is the last puzzle piece to be placed, but I've had no luck in finding 50m penalties for a given match and it's pissing me off more than Bolton likes to piss off Docherty..

Is it just me or am i the only one that thinks we didnt get the better of the umpiring ? There were at least 5 instances of blatant mistakes from the umps that should have gone our way.
1. Jack getting his head ripped off
2. Cotrell front on contact that resulted in a goal to Mackay in same phase of play
3. Bolton chase down in last quarter blatant holding the ball
4. Mackay second grab mark after being touched by 2 other sets of hands
5. Cripps on at least 4 occasions throwing the ball

Blues fans whinging for what ? Broad touching the ball ? IT WAS TOUCHED !!!

1. lolBlues supporters all around me yelling for HTB when one of our blokes managed to chuck it on their boot or otherwise dispose of it - think they just need to learn the rules.

2. Cripps 34 disposals, 9 kicks, 25 throws but sure

3. Umps tried to gift them 2* goals (albeit one overturned) from the softest frees - Cripps in the middle and McKay

4. McKay mark despite it clearly bouncing off 2 players hands

BTW Docherty ducked into that tackle and i was glad the umpire paid holding the ball.

There were at least 6 instances of deliberate out of bounce that werent paid. The kid with the oversized head number 4 did a 180 degree turn and ran 3 steps to go over the boundary line under no pressure and jack looked at the umpire to request the free and the large head looked freaked out cause he knew what he had done was so obvious that he should be penalised but no of course ball in.

Should be used as a training video. Perfect example of ducking to draw a free. Great piece of umpiring.

And yet, 20,000 Bloos fans screaming "unfair".

Unfortunately I don’t know a way to get 50m penalty differential stats DtD. 😩

But what I do know is when I was boasting about us moving ahead of daylight into 18th place on the free kick differential stats, I got loads of pm’s from daylight supporters reminding me they have us covered for 18th in the 50 metre penalty race. campaigners. 😡

Yep I was pleasantly surprised with that one.

I screamed ball at the time expecting it to be paid high and i was thinking Marlion was gonna get done for a dangerous tackle on Cripps when it was a thing of beauty to watch. Kudos umpires on these occasions they rewarded hardness and strength

I reckon our discipline has improved as well, we're no longer being sloppy and I believe this has contributed to the way we're umpired.
Excellent point. I thought we were more careful in our tackles last night without being soft. Much better technique and we didn’t get sucked in by opposition players thrusting their heads at the tackler. I think it will make a massive difference for us.

I also thought we manned the mark well. Very smart. Blocked the corridor by choosing to stand closer to the middle of the ground. We also manned the mark very slowly at times which gives defenders extra time sometimes. (Very sneaky but I had to laugh when grimes milked that 50 by pretending not to know docherty was wanting to give the ball back. He ignored him and umpire pinged him for not giving it straight back!)

EFA. I think the umpire realised he had been conned, so short stepped the 50m penalty.

Best umpiring I've seen for ages and a sign of things to come for all those who drop to their knees.
The tackler response i've seen of late is to try an flip the "knee droppers" so they go to ground, land on their back. They are then trapped for possible HTB. MRJ executed really well a couple of weeks ago to get a HTB and shot on goal.
Pickett on Cripps was divine :smilev1:

Yes, I agree with that. We seemed to be a lot more careful with avoiding high contact and in the backs for oppo players on the ground. There was even one where Jack avoided Cripps back but it was paid in the back.

Cripps is a pest the way he dives onto his stomach every time he goes to ground trying milk a free. Danger does it as well.

I’m proud of our team that overall our players don’t seem to dive onto their stomachs, ruck their heads etc… too often. Jack played for a couple of frees last night which I didn’t like and I don’t reckon Dimma would have either.

Yep 1,2,3&5 were blatant. But overall you can cop several when you get a few back as well like we finally have the past few weeks. Funny how oppos are losing their collective Minds, imagine if and when we ever win a freekick count 33-13?

And I agree, our discipline is a lot better now, not many stupid sloppy unnecessary freekicks that hurt us. Great to see

vaginnivan may have helped the whole comp out getting umps to start being harsher on the duckers

You're looking at this all backwards Stan. Compared to most other weeks where the umps get out their rubber gloves and go full proctological on us, yeah we seemed to get a better deal last night. But compared to when two other teams play each other, it was just a normal set of adjudications.

The slow manning of the mark is the best strategy I think, keeps the defender moving on their feet if oppo plays on and slows the oppo down if not. Timing needs to be right, not too fast not too slow. Can milk a second or so extra by pointing at the ground indicating where the mark is as if you are checking with the ump. Players are entitled to stand right on the mark, idea is to get there as slowly as the ump will allow without calling stand beforehand.

What is it with AFL and umpires

Players cannot query a penalty
Players cannot show any emotion over an umpire of decision
Players cannot touch an umpires
Coaches cannot complain about umpiring
Media says very little about poor umpiring

Why are umpires so sacred?
