But that wasnt the case yesterday. We stuffed up that game with poor skills and a game plan that allowed the crows to get a big break right at the start. And then the incapacity to regain momentum when we had the game by the scruff of the neck 10 mins into the 3rd.

We lost that game and could have put paid to any umpiring crap by imposing ourselves more on the game.

If you agree that we could have played better yesterday then blaming the umps is just trying to divert the real blame.

Exactly when some of the horrible decisions were made. I think the reason we weren't possibly further ahead and thus, in a matchwinning position is because this is when the game was turned on its head by the umps. And the fact that we (and possibly they) could have played better is irrelevant as we (and they) didn't. The result was decided by umpiring errors. We could win every game if we played perfect football. It's not going to happen! But we probably would still have won this game regardless if not for these comical umpiring errors.

What makes you think you were better than the Crows yesterday?

You are a better side than you were yesterday and as I said, you will contest for top 4 but surely you can give credit where it's due. I'd like to hear why you think Collingwood were better (except on the scoreboard of course) Take into account that umpiring is a weak excuse as bad decisions went both ways. Let's also not forget that the Crows were missing their best midfielder, their best forward and one of their most reliable defenders.

im not going to blame the umps for the loss, sure they made some comical decisions that cost Collingwood a few goals but it was the 1st quarter that cost us the match. How do u leave Andrew McLeod to run around by himself?
Sure the umps stuffed up with a few of the marking contests in the 4th and Dale Thomas goal which was legit and Leon should have got that 50m penalty but at the same time we had some chances in front of goal and didnt nail them like Pendles and Swan dropping the ball running into a open goal.

Adelaide were excellent in the 1st but Collingwood were def the better side in the remaining 3/4.

Yes u were missing a few players but so were we. Take out Rocca, Heath Shaw, Rusling etc.

Its a blip for sure but lucky enough we got Melbourne this week even though we shouldnt take it lightly. They were pretty good for 3/4 yesterday against North

I am in no way blaming the umpiring for the loss against Adelaide, but I can see definite benefits for the club in having the large discrepancy between frees for and against explained by the umpiring department.

The discrepancy is there and statistically it is hugely against Collingwood.

If there is a valid reason for the imbalance then it makes good sense to address it now. If the club has to make changes to how we go about our footy in view of how the umpires perceive these issues then that can only work in our favour in the future.

No-one can argue with that.

Whether or not publicly announcing our displeasure with the free kick imbalance is wise or not is another matter. It may work against us as the umpiring department may react negatively and childishly to any dissent.

We could have quite easily won the game by negating Mcleod a little more, or by not dropping sitters in front of goals or coughing up a few to the crows.

I'd rather rely on us winning the game than allowing decision making by umpires to determine the outcome. We could have controlled our own destiny in that narrow loss, and we didnt avail ourselves of the opportunity.

100% agree. Would love it if we played at or near our best every quarter of every game of every year. But that is a little too much to ask for of a team of mere humans. i would never want to rely on the umpires to win a game for us as much as I would never want them to lose a game for us.

i never see hawthorn complain about umpires.. and if u have a look at there history there in the same boat.. umpires just dont like them either!
so lets stop crying about the maggots, and lets start winning these close ones :thumbsu:

I believe that we also complained about the umpires when we won those early NAB cup games so that should entitle us to complain about them when we lose a game. Not complaining that they lost us the game, but that they are incompetent and some people would say biased. Its just that a loss hurts more hence a lot more people complaining.
