Interesting that in the Freo v Eagles game at the moment, a bit of push and shove in the Freo foraward line. Ump is clearly heard to say keep the hands away from the face, if you do I will pay a free.

So Cousins takes a swipe at Josh Carr at his face and nothing is done about it. If you are going to make a statement ump, then back it up!

Also it seemed that McInerney last night asked Scotty Thompson when he had the ball on the F50 in the last quarter if he could make the distance? Seriously why would you ask that of a player that is lining up?

I used to umpire and know that you are supposed to give a bit of talk but at the moment it is just too much.

It's hard enough watching them ruin a game, let alone listen to them.

If miking them up was more about explaining their decision as opposed to infalting their egos, then I would be all for it. Seriously, so many of them seem to have small manhood syndrome.

The best coverage I've seen this year was at a friends using Foxtel and switching the audio to umpires and listening to the umpires and the crowd noise. Far more informative than the commentary.
