Probably started by the same people who said that he wouldn't play in the Grand Final and that Gary Jnr had a hamstring injury and wouldn't play in the prelim...

C'mon mate, why perpetuate rubbish like this?

Why because it can have some substence to it. He was never keen on playing senior football, doesn't like the media and now has reached the pinicle by getting a premiership. The story has some merit even if it was fabricated. besides other people might have heard the same rumor. Its been on radio in melbourne today as well..

If Nathan was seriously contemplating it he wouldnt tell a soul but close family so at this stage the story would never be leaked as a result. Its 12 days since the GF?

So cant take it seriously..sorry.

But thats exactly why these rumours start. If they think that some people will buy it then thats why they start it. You don't hear these sorts of rumours about someone like Jimmy Bartel or Cameron Ling because the time taken to figure out it's bollocks is around 0.1 of a second. In this case it takes a couple of days or weeks or months...when he fronts up again and starts playing in round 1 people might start to think it was baseless..

That my friend is why these rumours start - they seem kinda plausible so they gain momentum when in fact it's just horseshit.

Fair enough mate.

I reckon the radio stations would jump on anything Ablett related even if it isn't substantiated. The other one I heard is that he's going to join some priesthood or something similar... It's all just rubbish started by people who like to get a laugh from this sort of stuff.

Same rumour I would say...you can look at it 2 ways - 1) that he is the only type of guy on our list that would consider doing something like this

or 2) that because he does seem the type of guy who might consider this, he is prime material to start such a rumour...

Re: Nathan Ablett to retire?

I think that the rumour is false, because the media know nothing about Nathans private life and they would jump all over the smallest details if they did. I wouldn't think he would let something like this slip. We wouldn't know that he was going to retire until after it happend. However if there ever was a candidate for an early exit from AFL nathan would be it.

Actually they do peddle a fair amount of shit. Plus every year its announced that Nathan is walking away from the game. One year they'll be right!

Actually, I did hear a rumor that Lingy will retire. There's no way that it's true though.

34 year old nathan ablett is set to walk away from football and join a ministry. His career spanned 300 games and he kicked 1300 goals beating his father ;)

Nathan will never retire no matter how old. He will always walk away :p
But you make a very good point Jim boy. Glad that others have heard the same things. Obviously is a fake then.

Re: Nathan Ablett to retire?

This is total crap and you feel for players when someone starts these rumours and as Geelong supporters we should not even post such things on sites like this..

Re: Nathan Ablett to retire?

I heard that Nathan Ablett is going to retire & the Cats have asked Gary Snr to nominate for the draft. He is also keen to play in a flag with Gary Jnr

I heard that your dad went to a restaurant and he ate everything in the restaurant and they had to close the restaurant - Ralph Wiggum.

Bit off topic but it's about as sensible as the rumour itself.

Re: Nathan Ablett to retire?

The best rumours to fabricate are those that may have an element of truth to them, as people will more readily believe them.

I think whoever started this one knew what sort of crap they would set in motion.

Re: Nathan Ablett to retire?

I don't think that it is true about Nathan Ablett, but the worst case scenario if it is true, is that we will be hearing a lot of chants of.....

"TOMAHAWK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That says a lot about our depth. If N. Ablett leaves, Hawkins will walk straight in and kick our goals.
