Interested to hear how OM's are shaping up......lost many of the premiership players?? School side not so good last year?? Big step up but should be more than capable.

St. Bede's rumoured to be struggling somewhat - believe that at your own peril!

Beaumaris - as always seem to rate themselves highly at this end of the season!! Just kidding.....good numbers there I hear!

OX - shaping for revenge! De La look out...

Love the rumour mill at this time of year!!

yep de la are shaking in there boots remember they retained most of there PREMIERSHIP players......

LOL I cant believe they are even bothering running this competition again this year.

Give De La the flag already and start preparing for season 2011.

Why don't we wait to see if De La can the first few games (OM,OS and Beau) before they come up against OX in a triple header.

No one is doubting De La ability or recent success (4 of last 6 flags) and their ability to retain and attract players.

Lets get serious who are the other teams that will be serving it up this year, and give your valid reasons why.....

Not Alot of chat so heres my two bobs worth.

De La: No doubt will again be pretty strong but i was under the impression that they lost many of their guns from last year! (there spine players anyway) i'm pretty sure that Muller is to old. The team last year i thought was carried by their seniors 19s they do make a big difference! and with the Capt.-CHB and that FB gone they r hard to replace. Didn’t think their bottom age players were that good! Having said that they always get a good crop of School players coming through! Definitely top 4

Xavs: With their seniors being so strong you would expect every top age 19 player to be playing 19s with it being so hard to crack into senior sides! Lees is still around and i would tip to be the captain and their best player. School sides not that good but with all top age players playing they will be up there.

OS: New coach, and apparently struggling with numbers this year. Many of School leavers either drafted or playing VFL and some even TAC. However many top age players from last year will be around and all the ones staying down are good players. Davis, Long Mursell to name a few. some good players from school but if injuries hit and when holidays come around numbers will be an issue! Top 4

Uni Blues: Always depends but with a mostly top age team last year there will be alot of new faces. I would have thought with Blacks in B grade many boys will want to play A grade and thus choosing to play with the blues, so im tipping a strong side, always good to get them early as they would have hardly played/trained with each other.

Beauy: Geeze they have tickets on themselves but to be honest last year they were knowhere near the top 4 sides. There top age players are ordinary but from all reports they are keeping most of them. Will need a strong contribution from the new players and if they get the right mix could!!! Challenge. i doubt they will make top four but ive been wrong before

Blacks: Again who knows but like i said earlier with them being in B grade and blues in A they might not get the best talent. Im tipping Blacks to be relegated!

St Bedes: In a whole heap of trouble were seriously carried by the few remaining good players from their great era last year, but they're all in seniors. Saw about 3 of their under 18s matches last year and god they are terrible! If they haven’t acquired some decent players from outside they could even be relegated however with the comp not being that strong this year they might be saved. A long year more the Bedes boys!

Marcellin: Lucky to be in this comp but i think most are happy to make the trip to Marcellin rather than Rupo. One thing is for sure this team will be fit this year, with their new coach an Hawaiian Iron Man competitor (for those who don’t know that’s a 3km swim 180 km bike ride then a 42km run) having said that who knows if he can kick a footy! really battled last year with top age really doing most of the work, from all reports their School side wasn’t much chop and they really seem like a disinterested bunch! bottom 3

New Sides!

Old Camberwell: Saw the first half of their North 1 grand Final last year and that team would have caused some damage in Premier. Very big team with great structure. havnt heard much from them about who they have kept but if anything like last year they will threaten and make top 4. Definitely Dark Horse

Old Melbournians: Saw there South GF last year and were good. Lacked some tall’s but midfield was polished and fast Have kept goal kicking machine from last year Lachie Bennet, I think his name is. School team was ok but no real standouts. I feel they will be midfield, but may threaten if they get on a role!

Ladder:

De La
Old Camberwell
Xavs
OS

Blues
OM’s
Beauy
Bedes
Marcellin
Blacks

A very good review Kickin. I found it interesting your view on Old Camberwell.

Just a suggestion maybe you could become the scribe in the AF each week with the information you shared with us all :D. Or better still get in touch with the scribe so we can have some excellent coverage this year.

Good work ! Look forward to your next post.

It's about time this section got a decent scribe...

Both promoted teams are very good and will have more than a large say in who plays in September. Many sleepless Friday nights in store for Premier defenders if Sam Killworth remains in the unders at the barnyard.

Sam who, I'm sorry but where is the barnyard?

You newbie's will have quit your North/South lingo and start talking in Premier terms... Would just sit back and enjoy the ride if I was you.

Hi all new to this
Obviously kick it is either from os or ox to post this comment. De La Have beleive it or not apparently retained chb humphrey? not 100% sure though but i know there was a humphrey playing for them on the weekend. De La picked up a fair few sandy and chargers rejects also. Sam Lees will dominate this year even though he has red hair. and the blues are BATTLING if there loosing to a young de la side.
my prediction ox-dls-beau-melbournians

Humphrey the CHB is still U19!!! His brother apparently played on the weekend!!! Beleive it or not Muller is still U19!!!!!!!!!!!! Surely will play Seniors all year. My word is they have retained 16 or so premiership players!!!!

Last years CHB Humphrey is U19 in 2010 but believe he is currently injured. Has been joined by his younger brother who looks a likely type. It’s more like 8-10 of last years team not 16 but they have picked up some good newbies. And yes the great man Steve Muller is eligible for the 19s in 2010. Kicked a bag in the seniors on Saturday and will play ones all year, as will some of the others. Don’t judge Uni Blues (or anyone for that matter) on practice match form. They will be thereabouts once again. Have heard that Xavs, OC, & OMs look the goods. What’s the mail on the other teams? Will be a very open comp this year.

Love your work there kickit... bout time someone putta bitta effort into a statement....ps whatever clown said ..."oh hes probs from de la or xavs..." who gives a fuuuk wheres hes from with such insightful comments... its good ...

teams that i ghave some knowledge about are

now
Camberwell.....saw em win their granny last year....pfft got nothing....they play kick and hope football..british bulldog style...just push it forward through any means... any mob that can use the ball agaisnt em will smash em

de la....if they still have as many good players as they say they have retaioned...will be borderline impossible to beat...this is not from a de la snuff either

ox...may threaten but they still have that plain ole ****ter aspect to em...really just a soft mob ... might with throw a decent win here and there but also more than capable of loosing to the bottom sides

marc ... didnt have many top ages players last year but they were relied upon very heavily. however, new coach about (got the respect of the players)...got some of the good school boys down....(my surprise packet) write em off of ya want .. might just jagg a spot in the 4... (could look silly here however)...

THOUGHTS?

yours with love

Mister X good to have you back on board in 2010, enjoy reading your comments regarding all things VAFA.

I agree with your thoughts regarding Old Camberwell, De La played them in a practise match at the start of last year and gave them an absoulte belting (I know it was last year but they did go onto win a flag) so I think they will find the jump up to the top flight as hard as others who have come before them.

Marc - good honest team who can surprise, but stringing wins together seems to be an issue

De La for me though, the good on/off field culture seems to attract quality players from the school and surrounding underage clubs.

A fine example of how a club should develop their underage teams to feed into a successfull senior outfit, you could also include St Bedes in this model

Old Melburnians looking primed for a big season in premier. Got plenty of new players from going up in grade. Predicting upset round one against the slow starting De La.

Slow starting De La???? You might want to review the starts De La have had in the past few years.

Anything but slow.

Good luck to OM's they will need to be on their game.

I'll review the most relevant season which is last season. Lost to xavs, crawled over the line against a pitiful marcellin and then beat beauy in an unconvincing manner.

Watch out

if OM's beat De La in the first round i will be very surprised! but history does show they do start slow! having said that i reckon they'll still win by an even 10 goals and welcome OM's to the big time

OM's have recruited well over the summer with the likes of Lois Dean, a sneaky goal sneak from shepperton and John Cooper, a powerful full forward from the Mallee. should be an interesting year
