OLD MELBURNIANS 13.17-95

MARCELLIN 5.9-39

Wasn't suprised about Beauy beating Scotch, as Beauy have only lost 1 game at home against De La in round 2.
Few interesting results were Xavs going down to St Bedes and Uni Blues smashing Camberwell...

Guess the pundits were on the money saying Scotch struggling a touch - Beauy very good at home however......Beauy also very good in finals series! The club has one a few flags from fourth spot previously - don't feel they can undo De La though if they get through to them in September.

De La getting closer to full strength....no McMahon on the weekend though but Bonna back??!! Amazing how much depth there!

Goss in the ones still - I reckon for the remainder of the season. Ambrose not play?

Look forward to Scotch hosting De La - what are peoples thoughts of the likely result....De La how far????

Ambrose got a call up to Coburg due to Richmond having a couple of talls out injured..

Really surprised by the OX result - St Bedes a competitve side but thought they should really trouble xavs?? Any feedback boys? Not going to have a crack at anyone for "excuses" just interested in how the game went!

Assume Beauy played the Banksia "spread it wide" game against Scotch - were they just slack in chasing them on the wide open spaces or are the surfer boys coming good as the sunny stage of the season comes around??!!!!!!!

beauy to spread reasonable well on that ground but one things for sure if scotch dont chase de la they will be punished badly as de la run the ball better than any1

looking ahead, it seems that beauy will play xavs twice in a row as they play each other in the last round then most likely again in first week of finals

Righto people, time to stake your reputations on predicted finishes!

Anyone got any idea where the finals will be held - Trev Barker? Elst Park? Central Reserve? Brindisi St? - I think this could have a big impact on the finals results!! It would serve teams well to prepare for footy on the big (or small!!!!) grounds.

I'll go with a De La v Beauy Grand Final!!! I think Beauy will get over OX and Scotch from 4th spot. They run the ball well and love a challenge! But they don't run it as well as the Dees and will get beaten in the GF.

OS 3rd and OX 4th.

Just my prediction and I stand to be corrected! Love August and the smell of finals around the corner!

They wont announce the finals venues for another couple of weeks, but prob would be trev barker/central like last year, I doubt they would hold finals down at SBM as it's too small and the ground is in terrible condition.

I think HQ like to get revenue from the finals (fair enough) and use grounds with fences around them - they have used Brindisi before and wouldn't put it past them!!!!

Whilst on predictions, tips for the B+F??? van den south African name from scotch must be a shot, as would Goss from OX - played enough games?
T and B Humphrey from De La might take votes off each other but good chances??
Thoughts?

Im tipping central will be the GF venue, all finals venues need fences..... i know that trinity sporting grounds has been used before.

Goss has played 10 games so far so might not be enough....... could be a low score which wins it or even a joint B+F..... yeh you would think that the Humphrey boys would take votes off each other but it looks as if DeLa will end up 18-0 so should be enough games for each to poll.

Predictions:
trev barker to host Gf.
B&F Big Van B from Old Scotch. Roughys H. Nedem from Xavs & Nice from UNi Blues.
Grand final will be De la Vs Old Xavs- De la just too much depth, 3 goals over a good Old Xavs unit, will be tight all day until late.
Old Scotch out in straight sets, but will run both teams close to cap off a good year.

This is just my point of view! Likly to be proven wrong over time, like bazza I love this time of year. I hope all players have safe and successfull finish to a great season. Can't wait for the finals

cheers
Nasi

A. Nice will win by a little bit and a bomb threat. Followed by Nick Voyage from Melbourne....then Big Red from Scotch. Then a draw for 4th with the Humphrey Brothers sitting on equal points ahead of Longy from Scotch.

B & F: 1. Nice U Blues. 2 Van De Broek Scotch 3. toss up - maybe Nidam Xavs, Clinch DLS, Evans Beauy. This is always an on ballers award.

Would have had Barhorn in there from St Bedes if he had played more games as he seems to have made a big differecne to that side. Humphrey brothers both had great years but play in the back line and rarely noticed by umpires. Clinch, X. Murphy and Nicholson to top the polls from De La. B Humphrey to be captain of TOTY.

Goal Kicking: Goss probably has it sown up. Good effort when he has only played half a season in the 19s. Maybe Van DB or Allen from U Blues can threaten if they get on a roll.

Premiers: De La from Scotch by less than 3 goals.

GF Venue: Central Reserve. Excellent venue. Good viewing, parking and all round facilities. More accessible to most clubs in 19 Prem.

TOTY nominations anyone?

Have to say young Webber from Beauy would be a big chance for a forward pocket slot in the TOTY. Quick, mercurial forward who is always there to pick up the crumbs and jail a few. On the other side of that, he also has another string to his bow in that he can get on the lead and take a nice mark.
Has kicked 22 or 23 goals for the year, missed two games and has been battling OP issues most of the year but think hes just about 100% now

Good Call, he is definitely worthy of selection

Some interesting results from the weekend. 1 v 2 saw a surprisingly comfortable win to DLS. Did Scotch threaten at any stage? Xavs second loss in a row to a team below them on the ladder. Seem to be missing a few of their top players but current form a worry. U Blues back in the mix after looking gone a few weeks back. Does anyone give them a chance of knocking over De La next round? Another big win to Beauy who seem to be the form side of the comp.

Yeah Scotch dominated the first 10 minutes but missed 4 simple shots at goal which let de la back in and then de la took control. Got to seven points in the third or the fourth but then de la got on top. Scotch still waiting on a few players to come back in. Excited for finals! Yeah what is going on with Xavs?? They have 2 sides so cant be complaining about depth..
U Blues.?? drew with U blacks and then produce a massive win??

By the looks of it Scotch were dominant in the 3rd quater being down 36 at half time and only down 12 at 3qt. Then De La finished them off with 12 behinds in the last quater???? Scotch have been missing Sansom for a while I hear not sure how much he will change things, however Long out will seriously hurt their chances.

Xavs on the other hand seem to rely on Goss too heavily they have no scoring power lately with him in the ones.

Anyone think Uni Blues are a chance to sneak 4th spot in finals, knocking Xavs out??

Is it a coincidence that Xavs poor form is on the back of recent shoplifting incidents. Perhaps some team members are enjoying the spoils of the NZ trip on the slopes of Mt.Hotham.

Another insightful comment from the magician and it appears he might just have a point. Obviously he has a few contacts or maybe its just magic?!

yer was at the game and yes scotch got ontop in the third quarter all be it with the aid of a breeze but the last quater de la did worse and could have really made a massive mess of the scotchies. secondly the big red head ruckman was seriously exposed with his lack of a workrate with humphery continuely running off him and his lack of speed around the ground was evident, personally i think tom mcmahon will absaloutly destroy him on a big ground in finals and throw murphy back into the de la side to.....

yeah de la did blaze away in the last! scotch also have multiple numbers to come back into the side in the following weeks, will be interesting to see how the school kids and injured strengthen the team..?
Yes the big red head did not have a great game.

So how many of the regulars are going to make way for these 'school kids'? You have had a really good season with this group so to make big changes this late in season does seem a bit of risk. Obviously Sansom and Long to come back in but what others?

Will there really be many school kids coming in? Especially seeing as Scotch had it's worst APS season in recent memory...

All of the school kids there getting, have been playing throughout the year at different stages so its not as if their new, Samson should be back soon but long is gone for the year. massive loss but have the men to cover him. De La without a loss whilst is great for them, massive pressure come finals time, season doesnt count for anything once your in the four or the grand final, massive pressure not to choke on a day when it counts!
