Re: Under 19's (2)

great to see we have a brain surgeon

Your obviously not a brain surgeon as this is the most open ended thread I have ever seen. Try be a little more specific mate. How bout a division or a side?
Its a little hard to reply to how people think the U19's will go as its an entirely new competition every year.

Re: Under 19's (2)

Justin Prasser will be great. Put money on it.

for those of you who dont know here is the comp structure fro 2008

The vafa website says there is only U19 Premier, U19 North (1) and U19 South (1). Does any body else have any info regarding how the U19 comp will be broken up this year and what teams will be in what division?

That has been taken into consideration. The vafa website says there is only 3 divisions this year. Not 5. Unless of course they're wrong!?!?!

if you have a look, it doesn't actually have the fixtures up because their still waiting on a couple of teams to confirm 100% that they will be fielding a side.

but it is pretty definate it will be u19 Premier, u19 South (1), u19 North (1), u19 South (2), u19 North (2), with the teams divided as per above post.

I'll second that - oc37 is the one here with his finger on the pulse, and there will definitely be 5 divisions, provided the majority of the teams listed above field the sides they've sought.

The only divisions which may change are the N/S section 2s where clubs who struggled to finish the season in 2007 (eg. NOB/StPats), or merged entities(Prahran/Caulfield and St Marys / Salesian) may have to wait until late March to confirm they can field a side. In these cases, there will only be drop-outs.

I'd be astounded if any side in Premier, N1 or S1 had to pull out.

Gentlemen and Ladies (and i think there may be a few here reading some of the postings)

Does anyone have any information on which teams at U19 level are training? training well? looking good? struggling?

always a good test of a club to see how many U19's are training before Christmas, and then of course through the whole "holiday" period of January and February i think.

Any whispers?

Reds have 35 to 45 regularly on the track, which is what they need with one side promoted to North 1 and a new one taking their place in North 2

word is that alot of the teams in north(1) last year were made up of mainly underage players, so the teams in that division could be farely strong. Old Camberwell finished the highest out of all those teams last year and one would think they are the team to beat, any thoughts?!??!

Manningham Sharks are a combined Whitefriars/Park Orchards team. Park Orchards junior football club were looking to align themselves witha senior club and chose Whitefriars due to proximity.

wouldve thought yarra valley wouldve jumped at the chance to align themselves with a junior club. esp park orchards as they play on the same ground.

Park Orchards had a look at few clubs to be affiliated with, Yarra Vally being one of them and Aquinas another, they chose Whitefriars for a variety of reasons such as location, and also with their snrs being in a higher grade would also of helped. Good to see Aquinas having an under 19s side again, good numbers on the track with new coach Bobby Moran keeping a close eye on his players. They had a good hit out against the under 23s of Aquinas and being on the under 23s side i can say that the young boys looked very good and will only get better once they gel together!

But like most yrs with the lower divisions of under 19s you nver really know who is good untill half way thru the season!!

having been involved in the whole thing you will find they chose to align with the friars as it is the best ran of the 3 clubs and also has the strongest link in terms of number of students playing at Park Orchards. At the end of the day it is the whitefriars OCFC under 19 team but with the aim of appealing to more than just students from the college.
