Will be a good laugh to watch the NZ players pretend they give a **** about the result of some random ODI series from 40 years ago.

In seriousness, it's one of the more overexamined pieces of cricket history, so I'm not too hyped for this doco.

Fun to remember the days when the test and one day sides were identical, and they used to put ODIs on at random points in between test matches. No wonder GS Chappell lost the plot there for a little bit.

Oh, and of course everything that needs to be said about that incident was said right here:

another opportunity for Greg Chapell to get his mug and incoherent opinions on the tv. He'll claim about how he was under alot of pressure, include some references to sandpaper-gate and a bunch of other bullshit.

In 1981, while there was a bit of overlap between the Test side and the ODI side, there were some differences. Trevor Chappell (13 games from a possible 14), Graeme Beard (2 games), Shaun Graf (9 games), Martin Kent (3 games) and Max Walker (4 games) played no Test Matches in that season.

The underarm games was the last time Walker played for Australia.

What a low campaigner Greg chappell was to do that. Forcing his own brother to actually carry out the cheating FFS what a dog act. The kiwis must have been irate!

It wasn't cheating, it was within the rules of the game

You’ll be interested to know that the late Richie Benaud had an inkling that Trevor Chappell was going to bowl that fateful final over that day, when he realised about the 45th over that Dennis Lillee was doing the penultimate over (49th) and that Trevor Chappell would do the final over. In Benaud’s mind, Greg Chappell had done his sums wrong.

My ears pricked up when Greg Chappell said "...if somebody had been grown up enough to try to talk me out of it..." (Maybe not word for word what he said), but seemed to be implying that somebody else should have taken some responsibility. Yet he also commented that he probably wasn't in the right frame of mind to have listened to Rod Marsh had he attempted to talk him out of it.
Interesting to see all the telegrams and letters Geoff Howarth has in his possession.

Here's what Richie really thought.

Chappell’s arrogance is astounding. He said he needed someone grown up to speak up, yet also said he probably would not have listened to them anyway. He was supposed to be the ‘most grown up’ person on the field, yet he’s trying to blame others for not speaking up. He should have been sacked for that incident and not seen at Cricket Australia level again, yet went on to be a selector (not a well liked one) for Australia on 2 occasions. Talk about a boys club.

I don't know what more people want from Greg Chappell. He's explained the reasons why it happened, and stated over and over and over again that he was wrong, apologised, and wished it never happened. If he was still saying he did nothing wrong, I could understand the vitriol towards him. What more can he do?

Refusing to walk off after Snedden took that catch wasn't great sportsmanship from Greg Chappell either, it was clearly a catch and Snedden told him he had caught it cleanly which should have been enough for him to walk off but with no 3rd umpire reviews back then he got given the benefit of the doubt.

Ironically he was caught with a similar catch by Edgar later on but decided to walk off then as he probably thought Australia had a big enough score to win.
