Who's the most underated player at your club (past/present)?

I believe Garry Foulds (300 games, 2 prems. Big V, All Aust.)was the most underated player to pull on the Essendon guernsey in my time. Others who have been /are:

Neil 'Nobby' Clarke- 2 premierships, Big V.

Kevin Walsh- Developed into a very good CHB after a slow start to his career.

Gary O'Donnell- Ultra consistent over 12 seasons.

Sean Denham- More ability/skills than given credit for.

Dean Wallis- Injuries and suspensions ruined his early career, but has shown the last 2/3 seasons he can play at the top level. Despite what a lot of his own 'supporters' think.

Damien Hardwick- Only just getting recognition for his ability. (Outside Essendon).

Joe Misiti- as above.

where's wally?

Ian Fairley, Ross Smith, John Law, Peter German ) I might add others as I think of them.
I still reckon Wayne Carey is underrated because no matter how many accolades and superlatives people bestow upon him, he is EVEN BETTER STILL!!!!!!!!!

I agree SS11!!!

Why Syd Coventry didn't get a spot in the team of the century is beyond me. When you captain the greatest team of the last century to four consecutive premierships you should get a guernsey (even if on the bench) by default. From all reports he was an absolute gun ruckman and won the 1927 Brownlow to boot. Perhaps it should have been called "Team of the Half-Century".

In our team today I reckon Simon Prestigiacomo is our most underated player. This much maligned 'kid' had his 23rd birthday just last week and has had the pressure over the last few years of being the only half-decent tall in the Pies backline. His athletisism is unquestionable, but his skills have let him down. He was a quiet achiever last year in defence and I would put him in our top five most important players. He will benefit greatly with the added height and support of Shane Wakelin (who is 110% fit) and James Clement. I have no doubt that he could be one of the premier full backs in the comp over the next coule of years.

simon prestigiacomo collingwood,i love this guy he just try's and try's all day.Best of luck this year presty go and kick some ass mate.

"Hey ,just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand"

Brett Ratten, Anthony Franchina and Scott Freeborn do so much hard work that goes unnoticed by everyone but the Carlton faithful. These 3 would always be in your best 18. Adrian Hickmott and Mark Porter also get a nod.

Its a bit hard to rate him when he's always suspended for spitting, biting, punching, eye goughing and every other reportable incident.

I think most people will disagree with you there chattys_slut. Most oposition supporters no matter how much they dislike the Blues, will deny that they think Brett Ratten isn't a star. He is so consistant week in week out, and most people do give him lots of credit, in which he deserves.

I agree with you though that Porter doesn't get a lot of attention. When Allan was out injured he did a great job.

I think it was Bubbalouis that said John Barker was underrated at Hawthorn, and although I'm not a Hawks supporter, I agree. Especially at the end of the season, he really picked up his game.
