True story. A good mate of mine (Grant) goes to the Karate Centre in Waverley Road, Chadstone every week. One of the instructors was a bloke called Willie Thompson. Unbeknown to Grant his instructor was living a double life as a drug dealer at the high end of the scale. Grant always walked out to his car with Willie Thompson at the end of their training sessions. One week Grant didn't feel well and stayed home. This was the week that a car pulled up on the kerb and two gunman jumped out and killed Thompson as he left the karate centre. He was one of the 29 or so killed in the gangland killings. When Grant heard what happened you can imagine how his guts felt!

Have seen the first nine episodes, unbelievable television, best show ever and for those who've only seen the first, second and third episodes, it gets better!! It's probably right up there with the best gangland story lines i've come across and the amazing part is its a true story line and happened right here in Melbourne, pretty full on.

Decent show.....absolutely ****ing pathetic, nee, shameful attempt at simulating Carlton training in the background of the PP scenes....looked like me, HBF, The General, TGR and three other random extras running around like dills

Hey I resent this too. Far too smart to run at all, let alone like a dill.:o

Yeah, we all want to see this Cotchinesque dual sidedness that you've been rambling on about for quite a while.

Have just finished watching the first episode, and while it's good (the book is obviously better as Sylvester goes into detail), there are certain things portrayed in the movie that are just laughable:

*Carl Williams being "The Driver" - absolute tripe, his father George was a drug dealer, and as such Carl followed in his footsteps.

*Carl Williams asking Mokbel to help him make drugs - WRONG - the Williams family have been known to make drugs out of Broadmeadows/Gladstone Park for a long time. They were rivals with the Morans in the drug market and occaisionally they worked together.

*Jason Moran being this musculer tank - WRONG - he was overweight, short (around 5"6) and stocky.

*Gangitano being this "supreme fighter" when he wasn't he relied on the help of his cronies.

He's still alive, so they wouldn't have the balls to name and shame him in this series.
Shame - don't think so. Clowns like that think it adds to their notoriety. He would be miffed for not looking like a tough important person. The photo was on the front page of the West. We all know about him already. Maybe that was why it was omitted, so the living don't think themselves any better. He could not claim damages for portraying something already in the public domain, but the show is only based on real events after all.

I think Carl was included because he was a major player and he'd already confessed to 3 of the 6 murders he was accused of having a hand in.

I love the way Carl Williams is portrayed though lol - he's semi ******ed in the series.

One thing is clear: the media and police don't like Carl "Fat Boy" Williams.

Gotta say I am calling everybody sphincter. Means arseh*le. Laughty laugh laugh!

I have read most of the Underbelly books, I have read "Tough" and "Leadbelly" and I don't remember any connection between Vicki Jacobs (who the Tracey character is obviously based) and Moran or Gangitano. There was always a belief that bikies were behind her death and there was no doubt she had gone straight after years of petty crime but are the makers of the film using artistic licence by connecting the Moran and Jacob stories? I reckon so!
