underestimating ?

I expect Browne to start in Rd 1 (if he gets through the NAB without a meteor hitting him). He finished last year strongly (excellent game against Collingwood) is fitter than he's ever been apparently and coming into his prime.
Having said that I hope to see Hinkley start as well so I don't know where that leaves us.

hinkley had his best ever afl game in round 22, im thinking that if he is fit and shows some nab cup form then he should get the nod...... who knows, injuries happen in the pre-season too, so i guess you go for your best available lineup at the time

lol lets hope he's entering his prime because 2009 is his 8th season on our list!! Pav's only been at the club 2 years longer than Browne.

Wouldn't be surprised if he plays round one but don't expect him to play more than 5 or 6 games for the season.

Scoff unbelievers if you will but we have lost plenty of senior players and a fit hungry Andrew Browne will prove very handy this year. I know with the youth worship of BF that any 19 year old is automatically a better player than a 25 year old but he's hardly over the hill considering he was drafted as a 17 year old. Can play the game and will get better and better with time on the paddock.

Browne was shit in the games he played for us last year. Probably the luckiest player to still be on a list in the AFL. In saying that I hope he can turn it around next year.

If Clayton Hinkley can't push Andrew Browne out of the 22 in 2009, Fremantle need to trade him for whatever they can get while they can still get something.

i dont think there is any danger of hinkley not getting a game a head of browney.... in saying that if clayton can get 18 games under his belt that will be a success.

Rd 22
13 kicks, 7 Handballs, 8 Marks, 3 tackles.
That's not a bad game. More importantly he was running harder and getting better as the game went on. He can play footy.

they are pretty good stats.... hey if browne keeps that up he deserves a spot, i hope he can prove a few people wrong...... people who say that he cant play are wrong, he has always had talent, just cant stay out on the park

Good call, I hate it when players don't dominate in their 2nd season.

yeah a bit harsh on one of our most talented young mids.... people get blinded by the brilliance of palmer, the fact is is that a player like palmer or joel selwood doesnt come around too often, most kids need time. hinks will be a gem

How effective were those kicks/hballs though? The old lady taped the game and I watched it twice in the post season and he was IMO crap. Maybe you were pissed at the Collingwood game like myself and looked up his possession count today and somehow thought he had a good game..

I'll see if I can dig up the tape tonight, maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'll have a larf.

I don't think the problem is people underestimating the Dockers in 09, it's probibly overestimating.
There are so many variables for us this year, yes we still have that core bunch of quality players, and an absolute plethora of good young talent.
For us to achieve anything this year the second tier players need to step up, the Mundy's (who I highly rate, Schammer, Campbell, Drum and a few of the young players will have to play out of their skins, Don't be fooled by Palmers performance last year, it is unlikly first year players have break out seasons in their first year (Although if it was going to happen this year seems more probible)
Even if that happens, we still have to find a balance in the team chosen, as we have seen in seasons past there has been deficiencies.
Get all this right and sure we will go well, get another pre season into these kids, then we can get real excited.
Carn the Dockers in 09 non the less:)

If those were Browne's stats, with those 20 touches he had about 35 clangers, and an an absolutely atrocious fumble that sums him up, that led to the goal of the year.

He is as useless as **** on a bull.

I watched the game a few nights ago. He has some nice in and under touches some good delivery and he's still running hard at the end. Nowhere near our worst.

The thing about Browne is he has never had a decent run at it. Last year when he was able to string some games together he killed it in the WAFL and his numbers just went up and up. I saw a lot of those games and his kicking decision making and everything just got better and better. I believe if he gets a full pre-season and an uninterrupted go at the main season he will prove worthy of wearing the jumper.

The last 7 years board.

Unless Andrew Browne has a miraculous recovery from persistent injury and finds a way to translate WAFL form into AFL form, it won't take a dominant season from Hinkley for him to surpass Browne.

Me too. I wish we'd traded that crab Ibbotson at the end of 2007.

Hinkley is a long way ahead of Ibbotson at the same point of their careers. In his first year, Ibbotson was struggling to be one of the better players in the WAFL reserves while Hinkley was able to show glimpses of being a good player at AFL level. Browne still only occasionally does that after 7 seasons.

Hinkley will hopefully come into his own this season. :thumbsu: If it pushes Bowne to play well then excellent.
Browne simply has to perform on a regular basis, but it might not be enough anymore....

I don't think you did watch the game but if you did you are a relative or girlfriend to think he played well that night.

Good WAFL player, dud in the AFL.

He got a bit of the ball, but, as always, his skills and decision making let him down terribly.

That's just crap. Okay, he had some clangers, but he's not getting the same ball a Headland or Tarrant might get. Often Browne is in and under and getting the hard ball.

See how hard it is to hit targets when you are constantly stop/starting your football career. I'll go as far to say that when we actually saw Browne at his peak, he was just as good as Haselby. Big call I know, but if he had only missed 10 games instead of 50+, we'd consider him to be one of our elite midfielders.

That's not just a big call, that's an insane call. Hase won a WAFL B&F as an 18 year old. He's got more natural talent than most players can dream of, if not the right body to fully use it.

A fully fit and developed Browne would be more at the level of a Schammer I think.

Yeah I don't think you can compare Hase and Brown, Brown is still just potential (even after all these years) where as Hase is realized potential, apples and oranges..
