Kelly missing a short pass to Lockett in the second quarter of the 96 GF. Swans were dominating the game at that stage and the momentum swung after that. We never won it back.

For some reason I always remember that moment.
Yep. Would have been a shot from plugger and a likely 4 goal lead. In fact, the ball rebounded from the missed kicked and North goaled at the other end. 2 goal game.

Sticks in my craw, too.

Not sure if there is a clip but I rate the 2001 prelim between ess and haw as an underrated classic. It was brutal tough unrelenting football all day, walking wounded everywhere in the end.

Ess eeked out a bit of a lead but were running on fumes and hawthorn were coming home hard...

Ess were just keeping their head above water when Trent Croad marked 55m out directly Infront , ready to put Hawks up...they wouldn't have been caught from there.

Croad unloads with a towering drop punt that was a goal all the way until the final meters when it swung into the post. Was an epic pivotal moment that was deciding who was about to play a gf.

Not long after former hawk Barnard chucked the ball on the boot out of a pack and it bounced at freakish right angles for a goal to seal it.

Great game but clearly took a toll on us, were never going to back up the following week.

I remember it. And I bet you do too ;)

Jordan Roughead's Wayne Carey-like goal in that game doesn't get replayed nearly enough for mine
Of course we remember it, but I doubt in 5 years time any neutral will. In saying that I barely remember it now other than for the result and thinking at the time that we were second to the ball etc. the whole night, I don't vividly remember many moments. I remember more of the PF/GF even though we weren't playing because they were better games.

Two massive career defining moments for one of the underrated players of the competition. This is why Stratton is rated so highly by Hawthorn fans.

Such a huge moment that does not get the kudos it deserves. Was a match saving mark. Same man had another match saver.

Jordan Roughead's intercept mark with 6 minutes remaining in the 2016 Grand Final.

JJ had just kicked what everyone thought was the sealer, only for it to be overturned. Dread filled millions of Western Bulldog fanatics & bandwagoners....have the AFL done it to us once again? There is renewed belief in the Sydney camp as Dane Rampe drives the ball towards Buddy and co, looking to cut the margin to 2 points. Then up steps Rough, intercepting the ball with a towering mark in the centre.

Moments later the Human Glove, Dale Morris would run down Buddy, the ball would spill to the Money Man, and Thomas Boyd would kick the premiership drought busting goal that Brian Taylor would elevate to football immortality with his orgasmic call.

This goal from Leigh Brown. After that lucky bounce, i knew we were not going to drop this game

A very memorable bounce! My brother said something about the footy gods - I tried to shush him but the genie was out...

The 11 Grand Final, Hawkins lining up for a set shot that he was doubting himself on, suddenly Steve Johnson appears in his ear, Hawkins palms it off to Johnson and he snaps the goal before the crowd or the Pies defence know what hit them. Awesome moment.
some nice moments from 2011 already mentioned; I got two more.

Al Christensen's mark while sandwiched between two Collingwood players in the third quarter turned a highly likely damaging turnover into an 8 point lead going into 3 quarter time.

But even before that, I thought a couple of Bartel and Selwood's contests in the 2nd quarter when Collingwood had their tails up and threatened to run away with the game really kept us in the contest.

I reckon this is one of the all time great goals but in the scheme of things it meant absolutely **** all. Buddy off the outside of the boot going full tilt. Unfortunately for Hawthorn Luke Ball snapped one from a stoppage.

One of the greatest goals ever.

Btw Leigh Mathews clearly gutted with the Luke Ball goal is gold. Almost like he's crying.

Hard to argue against Wakelin managing to avoid getting knocked out by an angry cooked Lynch in the 2004 GF. With the amount of revolutions Lynch's arms were swinging and wind produced, he cold have powered a small city.

Watching that game. Not a drink was bought by a packed house for the entire final quarter. When Buddy kicked that the place went nuts.

Apologies if any spelling mistakes, there is an ad covering up where I type and I can't get rid of it.

As a Fitzroy fan nothing will beat Alistair lynch holding the the ball in the final second of the 01 grand final. Only player to play for Fitzroy, bears and Brisbane lions

But for a footy fan probably have to say tony Locketts point against Essendon. As Kevin sheedy said "it was a great moment for the development of Sydney in the afl but it also created a monster"

Sharrod Wellingham bursting out of the pack to kick his 2rd goal, half way through the final quarter of the 2010 GF replay. The game was well and truly won by then (the goal put the Pies 54 points up), but it was just a moment of sheer ecstasy, and realisation that the dream of a flag was well and truly coming true.

Everyone remembers the JJ run through the middle and the Bont clinical finish in last year's PF, but that passage of play started with a Matty Boyd skewiff kick off the ground in heavy traffic on defensive 50 which landed perfectly in JJ's path. It is our very own Scarlett toe-poke moment.

Watching that live was probably the most intense last quarter I've seen.

Malthouse shedding tears at the end was a natural and necessary emotional release. It really felt like that was the end of an era, and there were no more mountains left to conquer (it was the first win in a big match against Hawthorn in what felt like forever). I really don't think anyone at Collingwood had any more to give after that game.

I know I bizarrely went into the GF the next weekend not especially caring if we won or lost. Everyone gave their all, but just physically and mentally ran out of steam in the last quarter, when the Cats ran over the top.

Mike Pyke's kick out of midair to Jetta in the leadup to Malceski's sealer in the 2012 GF was crucial and never really gets mentioned.
What about Marty Mattner's fantastic chase down on the outer wing to prevent a Hawthorn coast to coast scoring opportunity and potential lead change? You could tell Mattner was stuffed but he still willed himself for another gut busting run to put enough pressure on Birchall (who was initially free) to make sure the ball ended up out of bounds - inspirational stuff. Actually the whole game was underrated - fantastic GF and only surpassed by 1989 IMO.

Shane Biggs repeat efforts with 8 minutes left in the grand final resulting in a Picken goal, two smothers, a tackle and two hardball gets within 30 seconds of a 1 point game.
Hands down my favourite Bulldog passage of play and goal of all time. Not bad for a 2 draft spot downgrade ;)
