Unexpected improvers

i knew Swallow was going to fire this year just got put off by RD1 non selection
went with Hasleby instead

could have easily picked the scott mcmahon role change aswell oh well woulda shoulda coulda

Why? He averaged over 100 for the 2007 season playing 22 games. He was down a bit last year, but he was the first defender I picked as he looked well under priced. He's already gone up 40K.

The mere fact that a player didn't perform as well as the year before does not mean they are 'underpriced'. You would look at why their scoring output dropped.

Yeah, where was this form last year tho?...had him most of the year and all he did was pop in and out of the side for the odd 50 or so, now he's averaging over 80.

His role in the side has changed.

Maybe, but the fact he's gone up 40K and is averaging over 100 again would clearly indicate that he was under valued.

Interesting one.

If Anthony didn't get injured and played round 1, Swallow may well have been playing out most of the year in the reserves.

Remember, he was only named in the team after the injury to Anthony was revealed ... after lockout.

Lucky Benno as I took your advice when you said his spot in the team is unlikely, Now however your flogging me in our League and though swallow would of made little difference I wil be keeping a close eye on your 'advice'.

Yeah, right now it definitely seems he was undervalued. The odd thing about his scoring boost is that, as far as I'm aware, his role in the side hasn't changed all that much.

My point was that if, say, Roughhead only averaged 65 this year then by your logic you would lock him in your 2010 squad because he would be undervalued, considering he averaged 80+ in 2008. However, you would also need to consider why his scoring has dropped, perhaps because in 08 he was getting great supply from the Hawthorn midfield and he hasn't been getting that same supply this season.

Just an example.

Steinglien would have been the best example of a player that dropped their average by 20ppg and never looks like heading back there again.

Not sure who he is, but thanks for the example anyway ;)

FWIW, Stenglein's name was thrown up a bit in the preseason. I don't think many ended up selecting him though.

Also, (I guess its a similar topic) I never expected Lockyer to do so well. Last year his average dropped, but I saw no real reason for it to rise again. Everyone jumped on him after the 150 against the Eagles in the NAB Cup, but that was the worst squad WC could've put out. Being listed as a back would've helped, but yeah, I really thought that one would flop.

So did I, I didn't consider picking him for a second. But I know a lot of people did so he's not on my list.

Don't forget Nathan Krakouer, having a great season.

Something like 23,000 people started with him, me included. Not really an unexpected improver (although judging by Bigfooty squads threads I was one of the first to pick him up, and I'm thrilled with his season as a Port supporter and as a DT'er.)

If unexpected rookies are considered, then Whitecross. Has increased the most of any player, $146K  Bargain pickup at just 86K and only 7000 coaches have him.

Good point RS.

That's the power of a rookie having a huge score in their 3rd game and beyond. 3 big price rises. Much more important than game 1 or 2.

Leon Davis anyone? Averaging a solid 110.

I just traded him in this week for Brent Harvey :thumbsu::D

I was warned by a friend not to touch Davis, as he's "too hot and cold", and he then recommended I get Aaron Davey instead. I obviously disreagarded this advice, and I trust Davis to keep up his current form much more than I do Davey :p A lot of the benefit of Davey was that he has risen in price a lot, but I doubt he'll maintain his good average for the rest of the season. At least Davis showed signs of this kind of form late last year, and had every chance to go on with it this season too.

I think it's no coincidence that he's had the two massive scores with Didak out of the side. Last year was the same.

Even without R5 and R6 scores, he'd improved his average over last year. Hopefully he's done enough now to cement that spot in the team, and Didak can play a lesser role.

I just saw that only 3.85% of teams have Bernie Vince! Quite happy with him - 3 massive scores, and 3 scores between 70 & 81!
