How unfortunate is it that Hawthorn won't win a premiership with this bunch of talented players because the Bulldogs and the Cats are so far ahead of them?
Seeing blokes like Franklin, Hodge and Mitchell run around, who have obvious talent, you just can't help but feel sorry for them because you know they're just not a great team.
In history can you think of a great team who just couldn't win a premiership because there were always teams a little bit better than them?
Geelong 1991 to 1995 comes to mind. West Coast were just better than them when it counted, and then the Blues came through.
St Kilda 2004 looked like a side that could have done it, but Port Adelaide and Brisbane were just that far ahead of them. In fact I'd go us far as saying Hawthorn 2008 are the St Kilda of 2004. Good, but just unlucky to be behind such dominant teams.
