IMO moneys worth = a piece of paper saying I have a degree.

If I wanted my moneys worth I would probably read the books I pay $100 a pop for too.

But I don't and am yet to fail a unit.

It's all results driven. I'm not going to go and work for the Advertiser or any other big publication first up. Hardly anybody will. Community/regional paper will do as a start and I'll build from there.

My attitude to study won't affect me, because I still get good results.

Kinda back on topic; first year uni student here. How many lectures does everyone attend in person these days? I'm finding myself very tempted by the thought of sleep ins and just listening to them online. At the moment I attend about 80% of my lectures, is that the norm?

Ha ... missing 80% is more realistic. I guess in first year, you usually get two 1 hour lectures per subject which isn't too bad. I attended almost every lecture in my first semester, massive drop from then on.

I can never stop myself zoning out in my 2-3 hr lectures now. Tutorials are generally good though.

I attend every tutorial (unless I have a valid reason not to), but hardly ever attend lectures.

Always pretty funny how the attendance for lectures quadruples when it's a revision lectures....

We are told we have to attend every tutorial unless we have a leave of absence (sick note etc). We also used to have compulsory weekly prac lectures. Was the biggest waste of time...I remember sleeping in one week and ringing the uni (lol had just started on medication and it made me laugh) and was told to go get a sick note...bloody ridiculous!! Ended up going to the doctor and saying my new medication was making me drowsy (which it was) so got that one sorted...

We only have 8 week semesters though so I guess it makes sense.

I finished my degree in business a couple of years ago. I guess the fact that I was bored shitless through nearly the whole process should have indicated that I wasn't cut out for it.

Have signed up to go back for another go at something completely different (science), starting in semester two. Now all I need to do is find a place to live and somewhere to work back in the big smoke.

I attend most lectures (80%) as if I am there I at least do something towards the topic, I find doing boring homework really difficult. I would rather listen and learn then have to read a boring textbook.

Finished my B.Sc (Mechanical Systems) major last year at Melbourne, now in the Masters of Engineering.

Fortunately I don't think I've had any lectures over an hour. Short and sweet, so I stay fairly alert through most of them (although with some lecturers I find it nigh on impossible to not drowse off).

Go to the vast majority of my lectures. A 65 average is required for a Masters of Eng at Melbourne, so you can't just wing it. Ps might equal degrees but they sure as hell don't equal phds (highly ambitious, brah). Not sure I'll go down that path just yet but I'd like to keep the door open. Think I need an 80+ average to get a look in (hovering about 79 at the moment with two years to go in my degree).
