I must say, it's a very interesting stat - like that one about a team from outside the eight making the top four the next year every season since 1975 or so.
It's basically a statistical inevitability that a side has a serious shot at a flag after so long in finals.
2003, 2005 and 2006 were clearly the misfires that cost Adelaide joining the others.
The Collingwood team misfired in the late 60s and early 70s. But at least they made the 1970 GF, where they misfired (like the Crows did in the 93 Prelim).
