The 19th man???????? hahahahahahaHA

I have not noticed that on the back of jumpers, websites etc ? It is simply a slogan ...you lot are basing your whole club's identity on Creeds etc that are synonomous with Port Magpies.

It's totally different...and what's more...you know it's different.

Thats because you hate PAFC who has 139 years of tradition whilst your corporation hasnt. Yours is a corporation as it was borne purely from the SANFL whilst the Power was borne from an SANFL club - the PAFC. Pretty simple isnt it.

The Confusion continues;).

Born implies a new club. Port have existed from1870??

Even your CEO has used the above terminology. When your own people cant get it right.......

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...016212,00.html

M: I guess another example has been to embrace Fos Williams' Live the Creed ethos?

H: It's about respecting where we've come from as a club. We're one of the few clubs outside of Victoria that can boast we're born from a club that was here in 1870. So we would celebrate that, be proud of that and embrace our heartland supporters in the Port Adelaide area. But we should do it in the right way so we can engage our new supporter base going forward as well.

What does he mean by the second part "engage our new supporter base" Hmm could that mean not offend any non Port Magpie era people?? A few catch phrases and buzz words to keep the Port faithfull happy, but not too much depth to offend any Centrals/West/North supporters.

And it is something the club did not exhibit on the field and in media work last year......It is not an ethos the players had like they did in the magpie days. Cornes and Chaplin proved that.

exactly, this is what every Port Exec knows, but is drilled NOT to say to the powerbase and yet the supporters carry on with the we are 139 years old rubbish.

The Port Execs know the truth, they splintered off. They hoped the 'Magpie' tradition would be recreated in the Power, it hasn't, so now they are claiming they always were that 139 yo club but hope it doesn't upset all those other SANFL supporters who now make up their diminishing crowd numbers

Proof?? If I am wrong show me with more than a smiley

No - you made the assertion - you prove it hasn't.

In its truest meaning when Fos wrote it it was more than a slogan. But recent events might suggest it has been hijacked.

It's not 'hijacked', when it always has been and always will be part of the culture of the club.

Whats a changing world got to do with winning games of footy? It is a basic game, you win the ball and kick goals, importantly more than your opposition. You do this week after week till your final game. The same as it was a century ago. You mentioned the "system" has changed, in what way does that change my stated ideal of winning every game.

The changing world has an impact on the way a club can manage itself week to week and how it presents itself publicly. Pulling out a few random media comments doesn't change the club's key aim - to win every game and ultimately, premierships. As I said, the players go out to win, for you to suggest they don't is evidence of your tiny mind's inability to put things in context.

I am not disputing the right that Port Adelaide FC Power are the same club from 1870. Of course they are. Just that emphasis of being Port Adelaide in recent times is contrived. Where was the 1870 emphaisis a few years ago when the club was more interested in chasing neutrals

Who gives a flying f*** what the marketing emphasis is, really? The key point is the one you agree with - ie that we are Port Adelaide and please explain wtf is wrong with emphasising it? Marketing campaigns change every year or two. Your argument here is flawed. If it's real, it can't be contrived.

Has your club given up on being inclusive and proud or whatever, because it's moved on to seek the support of the 19th man? (whatever either of those 'slogans' mean).

We may have to agree to disagree, but debate is good brain food.

and god knows, your brain needs all the food it can get ;)

That is also a good point. Can't imagine Russell Ebert bowing to the crowd.

I also discount the argument about their tradition when they start changing guernseys every five minutes. The Crows home strip has
remained pretty much unchanged since they started...if Port are so big on tradition , whats with the extensive wardrobe? Off hand I can recall 6 Port jumpers.

And as for the colours ..."We weren't allowed to have black and white" story...well there are three teams in the AFL that are blue and white...they could have gone white and black.... even silver and black , but where did teal come from? They didn't fight hard enough for that, they wanted in, so they appeased and sucked up as much as they could..

Port Adelaide has only had one home jumper. You are being disingenuous if you're suggesting that one-off designs for fans are "changes" when they have immediately gone back to what is still the original home jumper.
The six jumpers you are thinking of are probably no different to the plethora of strips the Crows design for away games every couple of years.

Plus, if 32 years of playing in colours other than black and white doesn't change the PAFC before 1997, why does it have any relevance afterwards?

Royal blue vertical stripes, navy blue horizontal stripes, navy blue solid. They're not similar guernseys, let alone similar nicknames as well.

Nevertheless, the arguments surrounding Port Adelaide's entry into the AFL have been done to many deaths over in the Port Adelaide forums. If you're not satisfied by reading the millions of threads created on the subject, then by all means, feel free to duke it out with some of the regular contributors over there. But I think you know how weak your case is when it's not designed just to score cheap points alongside your likewise ill-informed brethren in Bay 13 . . .

Im not sure where you have been for the last 50 years Geoffa but its called marketing to get more members. Unlike the 19th man we can use facts in our marketing. Youre right in saying they dont want to offend any Centrals/West/North people as these are the people that they are targeting for an increased supporter base. Pretty simple really. We are different from the Crows in that it was easy for the Crows to get these supporters to support their new team in the AFL, its a much more delicate exercise required for the PAFC due to the rivalries that the PAFC had with all these SANFL teams.

So lets not argue over something as stupid as marketing tactics, both clubs have them and you think "Live the Creed" is stupid and we think "the 19th man is stupid, theres no surprise there. we should at least argue about on field stuff, not off field crap as there is plenty from both sides on that count.

Please dont drag The Creed to the "19th Man" level......One is(was) real the other is marketing crap.

As for on field, its no contest. Two flags to one is all that matters. That is the only reason footy clubs exist and we win.:p

Don't you realize that you have history a day after you are born ?

Maybe the AFC does not have the long, long boring history of your club but it's a proud & well respected one just as it's culture is. :thumbsu:

Give me quality over quantity any day young man. :)

If you are so happy with your history, why feel the need to deride others? It's because you are not really happy with it, are envious of others, hate the fact that the Port Adelaide Football Club has history and still has relevance and your old SANFL club is now in a feeder league and you've had to jump on some corporate bandwagon. I understand.

I like what the Port Adelaide Football Club gives me, quality and quantity, old man.

Exactly the point. We can point to something real in our history and use it to market to a wider audience. A return to roots so to speak. The Camries have no such history.

So your last 10 years have been pointless then? Thanks for clarifying.:D

I agree the quality and quantity of Port's embarrassments is astounding. :thumbsu:

Hey newbie, Camrys are real. You can drive them. The Creed is only real if it is exhibited on the field.

If you dont win a flag the season is pointless. Ask Adelaide United how this season has gone with no silverwhere (yet, nah i doub it). However some pointless seasons are better than others.

Ebola is real too. So what?

Yeah, we had a crap season last year by all standards. But you get variation in performance when you make a gamble which is designed to win you premierships. The Crow tactic is to make the finals each year and bow out without a whimper.

I guess our tactic works better.

Actually I believe the Crows played more youth last year than Port.

What was the gamble? 2008 result was based on a quartet of players not playing well or being injured. No gamble there, it just happened. Unless your suggesting Port tanked to get Hartlett.

No, your old tactic of quality coaching staff and and a core group of quality players worked well. Your current tactic is woeful and will win you exactly zero premierships.

Our gamble predates 2008.

And no, we 'tanked' to get Thompson. :D

Are you seriously that naive?

2002, 2005, 2006 all genuine chances as 01,02 & 03 were for Port.

We took an ordinary team that close to a flag, we're putting together a decent list now, we will win a flag or 3 before you losers do.

Rubbish. 02, 05 and 06 led to exactly 0 Grand Finals for you. While 01, 02 and 03 were disappointments to us, it culminated in a premiership in 04. Those years were not wasted.

Neil Craig is incapable of leading you guys to a premiership. I think you have a lot of talented players. I don't actually dislike the Crows, I just believe that Craig's coaching ability, particularly finals is not going to win you a premiership. Ever.

You're right, how many did you make in 01,02,03?

Do you think 2007 was of benefit to your team?

If that's what you think then you must get all your football opinions from BigFooty.

Craig has got an amazing performance from his team, how about you put yourself on the line, where, in your opinion, should the Crows finish this year?

Read my post again. 01-03 was not wasted for our team. It resulted in a GF and a premiership in 04. I would take 3 years of final failures if it led to a premiership in the fourth. Every single time.

2007 hurt us. Not denying it. Hurt us in 2008, but we will finish stronger than last year. What the last two years has done has highlighted some weaknesses in our gameplan which we are taking steps to address.

For the record, Crows will finish between 3-16. No Grand Final appearance this year. :thumbsu:

Looking forward to the Power quitting in Round 13 again this year. Apparently, quitting gets you closer to a premiership than playing finals.

I wonder why the Power quit so easily. Must have something to do with the Creed. :thumbsu:
