In 1963, Melbourne and Geelong went on an end-of-season trip to the US together and played a couple of games. The first in Honolulu and the second in San Francisco.

The first game was fairly friendly, and played on a converted NFL ground. A bit small, with goals in opposite corners.

The second was played on a field far, far bigger than the MCG, and by this team the teams and officials (for various reasons) hated each other and it turned into a regular biffo.

After the successful 1972 season the Blues went on a 'world tour' playing a league all-stars outfit in three locations, London, Athens and Singapore.

Similar to that, when Richmond nearly went bust in 1990 and launched Save Our Skins, they had an Old-Timers fund-raising game between Richmond and Carlton. According to coach Tommy Hafey, the instruction was still 'Kick it long to Royce'.
