Can't beat Shane Tuck for uniqueness...the perennial oh-so-close-to-premium mid nobody ever has. :D

Never misses a game from injury, improved his average by 5 points last year, averaged 110 from his first 11 games last year despite spending time in a different role across half back, playing for his career every game despite his new contract and seems to be scoring better the more support he gets around him.

Tuck until rd.10 then a slingshot into Ablett, skip four byes and you might even make a profit on the trade. ;)

blue thunder stole my name :p

interesting team. he made a few mistakes but still got it. goes to show you can still make a blunder or too.

he used a lot of trades early up too.... getting premiums in as quickly as you can is key but you also need to maximise value from your rookie cash cows...

just out of interest is there any data on how many players improve to over 100 each year, from say, below 80??

i'd imagine a few but picking them with foresight is an absolute minefield. for every one, that average 70 to 80 the year before and got up to 95 or 100 and above, there are going to be another 15 to 20 that kept the same-ish average of even dropped points. and pikcing those risers is a very tough science that will most likely leave you dissapointed.

A few I'm (strongly) considering:

Laidler
Hayes

Well, could only think of 2 that are relatively unique haha. One to watch is Simon White. Defender, priced ~300K? Call me biased etc but he is a gun, was great against Adelaide - watch his SC score for that game when it's released.

If he plays well against Geelong he will be in the 21 Round 1 imo.

Very, very unique if anyone wants to have some fun and pick him ;)

If White was cheaper I'd look at him. Looked ok last year in the few games he played. What's the news on Carlton's first rounder, Matt Watson??

Unique players I believe..

Backs - some premos/mid pricers but no love. Bruce, Johncock, Fletcher, Rawlings, Chaplin, Symes

Mids - Priddis, K Cornes, Bolton, Simpson, Kelly

Rucks - Goldstein, should be guaranteed games, Jacobs not much else lol

Fwds - Gia, Schneider (if no Roo),Le Cras can't be bothered writing anymore names lol

Reckon most of these will hold or improve their avg and can either give you that winning edge or make you cry if say for instance you have Simpson and your opponent has Judd/Murph and you get done.. it will hurt lol

That Blue Thunder team is pretty amazing. You could just see people picking over the selections of Goodwin, Ball, Hall, Hille etc... in the rate my team thread pre-round 1

But the rucks done alright for him i guess. His only trades were to downgrade Trengove and get Skipper in and upgrade Hille to Cox, where as there would have been plenty of people that stuffed up earlier with Clarke, Seaby and Jolly early on.

In round 9 i done the EXACT same as him as well.

Had all his defenders bar Goodwin, had the same mids as him except Selwood (had Cross), had Jolly instead of Hille and didn't have Medhurst or Chapman (that one hurt)

I also used up a lot of trades early and ended up 239.

Same, he got a 10% discuount but it just's not enough to make him an option.

Watson isn't ready, might play a handful of games this year though. Better options.

Two to consider:

Leon Davis (Yes, I know, but off the HBF? Has shown he can score big up the ground)

Taylor Walker (Not just rating him on one game)

I don't know how 'unique' they are, but I'm looking seriously at Josh Kennedy, Monfries and Nathan Fyfe.

Picking one (Kennedy) won't hurt you too much. Any more is just insanity.

Far better options out there, surely?

He isn't even safe in the top 22. Simon Buckley is in the same position (as to whether they will play or not) as himand is over $200k cheaper

I don't see why it's insanity if I like the balance of my team. If you think those guys won't score well, that's your opinion.

That's one of the irritating things about SC discussion on BF - there is a core pool of players that are consensus 'pickable' and if you go outside that, it's viewed as crazy. Not to say there isn't a lot of combined SC wisdom around here, because there is, but sometimes it's more fun to go a little against the herd. Most starting teams are pretty much the same.

While Davis isn't cemented in the 22 (and could even be used as a sub) he's a much better option than Buckley and could potentially have an amazing year. Buckley, I wouldn't even be surprised if he didn't get a game this year.

That's not it at all, mate.

There's nothing wrong with picking one risky player here or there, but to choose multiple risky players just for the sake of it will never work out. There is no point having an unique team if they can't consistently score well.

I reckon Bernie Vince will be a unique pick, valued at $378,000.

Scored quite well in the past but was playing injured last year which brought his average points down.

Might be worth a look.
