Not sure if this is reason enough for a new thread, but happy to cop a bake for it if not, but aint it great to have almost universal acclaim at our recruiting and list in general. Not a whine or moan out there, not a why didnt we or a we shoulda in sight and everyone pretty much in agreement on what a great night we had at the draft and what an exciting prospect the coming seasons hold for us.

We all over rate our own but its hard to find holes in the list now, we have more key positions prospects than we could fit into a team now and if they all make it we probably cant fit them all in, we already had an abundant midfield and whilst we didnt add to it last night, we have added players that will release other players such as Gibbs and Russell to play midfield roles so in effect we did add to our mids, and we added a potential full forward to an already fairly good forward set up.

Whats not to be exited about? Sure there are gonna be debates about who is in our best or starting 22 for next year and there are going to be many differing opinions but that is because there are so many likely options coming through.

But I am a glass half full kinda guy, come on Big Red, come on THS, come on all you naysayers, poke holes in our list for us. I think even BG2001 is too happy for words right now.

Go you mighty baggers. :thumbsu:

Quayle rates it and that's enough for me! :)

Her twitter account read: 'Initial thoughts: Loving Carlton's draft...'

I am Loving all these threads and posts today keep it up everyone :thumbsu:

I agree though good recruiting on thing that may come back to bite us is the watson v darling. not saying we should have gotten darling but if watson goes no where and he becomes an elite watch everyone jump on it.

I dont wish to unfairly malign the guy, but there is as much chance of Darling replacing Fev in the headlines and not on the back page if you know what I mean than of us wishing we took him instead of Watson. I hope I am wrong, but the signs are eerily similar. And I recall a vid earlier in the year where Darling gave Watson a bit of a towel up, looking forward to seeing that battle in years to come. I also recall Locket kicking a lazy 8 on SOS one bleak Sydney night, didnt stop SOS becoming the best full back of all time. Its no disgrace to be beaten by another champion, in fact its healthy and makes you work harder next time. So let the games begin. I hope they have a decade long battle, it means they both became champs, and to round out the comparisons, we might just see Luke Mitchell pipping Darling for a Coleman and that may be the more appropriate comparison to watch.

I love draft day, it is so full of promise.

Does anyone know if we have any picks in the pre-season draft. I dont think we do, I think we have used our full compliment already but happy to be corrected. And if so that just leaves the rookie draft.

You couldn't ask more of the recruiting team than what they've done with the picks they had.

OTOH, it's not likely we got the next Roughhead & Franklin with picks 18, 34 & 42. We'll see when these guys have had a few years to show their wares.

No, we've filled all our spots on the senior list. Just the rookie draft to go.

SC, because we're out of the pre-season draft does that mean that we've got no chance of picking Anthony, even if we wanted to?

The only way we could get him now is if no-one picks him in the PSD and he slipped to us in the rookie draft we could rookie him, but that aint gonna happen, Freo will take him in the PSD.

Sorry Sin, you got that. I guess it tells us that Ratts and Hughes were either not interested or thought he would not be available to us in the PSD and given Freo's pick is after ours it is more likely the former, because they could have left White on the Rookie list another year and saved that pick. I guess they have faith in Mitch.

It is very satisfying :thumbsu:

Purely for the sake of doing it, I've compiled a short list about our young KP talent. We have some serious talent, and some serious size.

Defenders:

Watson - 195cm - 102kg - 18 years old
McCarthey - 196cm - 85kg - 18
Austin - 193cm - 93kg - 21
Jamison - 193cm - 90kg - 24
Bower - 192cm - 92kg - 22
White - 190cm - 88kg - 22

Forwards:

Henderson - 196cm - 92kg - 20 ( Always forget how young this guy is, almost 21)
Mitchell - 198cm- 84kg - 18
Casboult - 198cm - 103kg - 20
Hampson - 201 - 100kg - 22
Kreuzer - 200cm - 99kg - 21

That is some serious talent pool!

We know it takes bigger blokes a while longer to develop, but some move straight into the 22 (Kreuzer, Hurley for example) so it will be interesting to see if Watson, McCarthy or Mitchel move straight in and if so, how long it takes (if ever) for Talia to make it, given there were so many that thought we shoulda coulda over Lucas. We are all pretty much agreed on Lucas now.

Absolutely stoked from afar (London) 30YB.

A chance that one of them will turn out elite. Would be greedy to ask for more than that :D. But having 3 at least gives us KPP insurance most of all from 2012 onwards. I know they will play games earlier, but they will impact a premiership run later - 2012 onwards.

Very happy with WHs. Also very happy with Ratten calling for some KPP stock in the team. We have a great mid coming next year (Buckley) which is great as well...another very good mid to add to our existing group.

I now formerly retire my tallist agenda henceforth, and personally thanks The Hughes man.

I didnt hear or watch the event (just AFL live draft)...but the pause interested me at our second pick. Me thinks/guesses that they were def going to take WaTson/Macarthy at 18 depending on who was available and had hoped to take Mitchell with their second pick. I think the pause was over the discussion between Macarthy and Mitchell given they didnt think the one they didnt pick would last to their third pick.

Incredible draft for Carlton!!!! Just incredible for our real shot at a premiership 2012-15. We have certain needs elsewhere but this covers a gaping hole in our list :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Finally, and a little selfishly, I think this draft franks my tall argument a little :thumbsu:

Just a few questions.

Do you think Talia is a better prospect for us than Watson given our needs?

Do you think that there is a better mid than Lucas taken after pick 18 in this draft?

Do you think that there were any better tall prospects than Macca and Mitch available at our later picks last year?

Hi Druss,

Don't want to get into it again as it was done to death last year. I'm just stoked for the Carlton footbal club.

A great draft, and a great future for Carlton :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Splendiferous,
I agree. Let's move on. Given how the draft panned out, you could have left my post unfettered :o.

Note: I have manlove for Lucas who will be able to play so many positions for us, and is just a quality player going through his development!

Happy to cede that to you fella, but I am afraid this draft does not prove we did not adhere to best available. WH has kept the argument alive by saying he focused on talls, Ratts squashed it again by claiming we stuck to best available and the selections we made were best available that just happened to be a) tall b) filled a need we had.

Gonna have to wait out another season to continue this one mate. Enjoy the winter over there. :thumbsu:
