I'm just looking through the medal tally on the olympics site, and i didn't realize just how unlucky somecountries have been during these olympics. I thought Australia was unlucky with all the silver but look at the medal count of some of the countries:
Germany: 13 gold/17 silver/24 bronze/54 medals
Ukraine: 3 gold/9 silver/8 bronze/20 medals
Belarus: 3 gold/2 silver/11 bronze/16 medals
Canada: 2 gold/2 silver/8 bronze/12 medals
Switzerland: 1 gold/6 silver/2 bronze/9 medals
Brazil: 0 gold/6 silver/6 bronze/12 medals
Jamaica: 0 gold/4 silver/3 bronze/7 medals
Georgia: 0 gold/0 silver/6 bronze/6 medals

Out of every country in the olympics i think the Belarus have been the unluckiest - 11 bronze from 16 medals.

Which country do you guys reckon has been the unluckiest in terms of the medal tally, feel free to choose from any country i haven't mentioned.

If you look at Australias medal tally for the last 7 Olympic games, our medal tallies reek of unluckiness.

Over the last 7 Olympics EVERY time, we have had less Gold medals, than silver or bronze.

By that, I mean if you look at the total number of Gold, Siver and Bronze, we have ALWAYS had most of either silver or bronze and giold has ALWAYS been the least in quantity.

Have a look.

2000 Sydney:-----16 24 16
1996 Atlanta:----9 9 23
1992 Barcelona:--7 9 11
1988 Seoul:------3 6 5
1984 LosAngeles:-4 8 12
1980 Moscow:-----2 2 5
1976 Montreal:---0 1 4

Over a long preiod of time, you'd think it would work out even wouldn't you, but over the last 7 Olympics, we have won :

41 Gold
59 Silver
76 Bronze

Look at this year. Susie O'Neil hasn't lost the 200 Butterfly for about 5 years, and she gets pipped at the post and collects a silver (nothing wrong with silver by the way)

Ian Thrpe breakes the world record, but still collects silver, because vanderhoogenboogen wins the gold instead. The mens hockey team doesn't lose a match, yet the collect a Bronze because they lost a penalty shootout. Jai Tumera (sp) leads the long jump, but gets beaten in the LAST jump of the night. There are many other examples too.

I know from past games, Canada had a shocking Olympics! Also, does anyone know the final results for New Zealand - they were struggling for medals.

Nigeria got 3 silver, no gold or bronze so they are quite unlucky, also Argentina and North Korea both with 4 medals, no gold.

The big bolter was Ethiopia who ended up with 4 gold - all in the long distance running

Unlucky ???

Try the Aussie Men's Hockey team - 8 semi finals in a ROW and NO GOLD. If the Poms hadn't beaten the Germans ( meaningless game ) then the Dutch would have gone out and we would have played Pakistan in the Semi. And then get beaten by a Penalty shoot out !

I can't believe these guys' bad luck ! THEY MUST WIN GOLD NEXT TIME - even if it means Hird and Carey getting a hold of a stick !

The Dutch cleaned up - 3 people won 8 gold ! And in the events that we wanted to win - swimming and cycling ! Grrrr!
