Unpopular opinion - you shouldn’t be rubbed out from the Brownlow if suspended

I think the fundamental problem is the AFL suffers from on Brownlow night is suspension inflation- players are getting rubbed out way more easily than twenty years ago when you actually had to do something pretty crook to get weeks off.


Anyone got an image of Chris Grants hit on Nick Holland (I think?) from 1997? Or google it, either way the bold is wrong.
 
Better question - why is the Brownlow held in such high esteem?
We constantly bemoan all the mistakes the umpires make each week yet entrust them to select the best player in the competition in a given year.
