The parents of the kid that Sonny Bill gave the medal to, should get fined for the pitch invasion. He shouldn't be celebrated, he should be punished.
We live in a hard bitten, cynical world, and to see something so spontaneously good like that makes things a bit brighter. Maybe I'm just a romantic.

As I said on the other thread (thought it more appropriate here) what if his motives weren't innocent? What if he was carrying a knife? Or a bomb? Or he had a history of stalking the player?

Would we think differently of the security guard then?

Security guy was doing his job, no criticism from me there, it was the reaction from Sonny Bill, and the other ABs that was so heart warming
Personally, I think he rewarded someone for being a little shit. Fair enough to check if he's okay when he saw he was a kid, but not going as far as he did.
For a 14 year old to jump the fence, it probably tells you a bit about the kind of kid he is. A teen that age knows what he's doing and the possible ramifications.

It was highly unlikely a 14 year old kid was going to be a threat to some big burly rugby players, there was no need for the security guard to crash tackle him like he did, fair enough if he was an adult.

It was a great gesture from Sonny Bill to give him his WC medal, apparently they've presented Sonny Bill with another medal anyway so he didn't lose out.

If I'd just won a WC medal I wouldn't be giving it away for all the tea in china.

But a 15 year old can shoot and kill a police officer? Must be a big difference between 14 and 15...

How is jumping on to a field even remotely comparable to shooting a police officer?

And where do 15 year old kids shoot cops? Besides America.
I was referring to my earlier post about not knowing his motives, and Parramatta, about a month ago a police staffer was shot and killed.

I'm with you Gough
I'm fence sitting

On one hand I think it was a great gesture, not just by SBW but also by the other kiwis who got around the young kid
The other part of me now sees this occurring at the next significant event we have where mum and dad encourage a young person to run out on to the field

I also agree with Hard Ball Get - nobody knows what someones intentions are and the rules are there to protect the players.

It's a sad old world we live in where we need to question the actions of everything

It was highly unlikely a 14 year old kid in England would be carrying a gun at a major sporting event like that, I'd imagine security was quite strict when people entered the ground.

I guess the security guys can't afford to take any chances but I still thought it was over zealous crash tackling the kid when he could've just grabbed him.

Reminds me of the time I was at the Big Bash and about 3 people pitch invaded across to the construction zone (around 2010). Then an 8 year old was being egged on by his father, was pretty funny.

But I agree, that behaviour shouldn't be rewarded.
