What are peoples thoughts on getting together (no homo) with mates of mates when the mutual friend isn't there. Mate of a mate asks me if I want to go to the footy on Monday which ill be going to anyway but not sure whether i want to go with him. Decent guy but never seen him by myself before. It's like on Seinfeld when George and Elaine went to the movies together without Jerry and didn't really have anything to talk about. Wut do

It's a tough situation that one, where you usually only hang out with that person via a mutual friend and when the mutual friend isn't there it's awkward af.

Seen him a couple of times without mutual friend but they were all when we were smashed heading out for a big night and with others too. This is a bit different. And I wouldn't have been going to the game by myself anyway

I don't have kids and it's not OK to smack other people's children (society, geez) so the smacking debate doesn't really affect me, but I think people need to acknowledge that modern parenting produces modern children.

You know, that whole generation of entitled little ****stains who need a 'safe space' every time their feelings are hurt? Kids who are obese because if they don't feel like doing PE Mummy or Daddy will write them a note explaining what deficiency/imbalance/condition they have that prevents them from exercising. Yeah, those little shits.

The fact that smacking children is now equated with physical violence and leaving bruises etc. shows how detached some people have become from reality.

Yeah, none of that is down to not smacking your kids.

I think you'll find the correlation to be high.

How many parents who let little Johnny out of PE do you think are smackers? Yeah, not many.
How any little Johnnys are let out of PE?..

How will I find the stats that back up that the correlation will be high? And how is the causation than shown?

It's one thing to complain about "these darn kids today". It's another to actually know what's going on, and the possible contributing reasons for it.

Hurting your kid is not what's missing in the world...

If your smacks are hurtful, that's wrong. To me, from my folks, it was the shame of it that 'hurt'. Like I said, once I called Dad's bluff there was no point anymore!

Smacks are supposed to hurt otherwise it kinda defeats the purpose. The (very light) pain is the deterrent.

People need to get a grip, though. It doesn't take much to hurt a small child. I mean kids fall over and immediately burst into tears. That's why they call it smacking your child, not hitting or beating them. A smack on the bum or the wrist etc. will sting for a few seconds - that's it. The fear or shock of actually being smacked is probably more of a deterrent than the actual smack itself.

Pain as a consequence and deterrent should teach that violence is something to be avoided because it hurts.

I wonder how many of these one punch heroes were smacked for discipline as kids. I would imagine not many at all.
