The whole America as a superpower is a little odd when you think they've pretty much lost every overt war they've fought since WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, drugs, they won the biggie, the Cold War, but that was thanks to economic superiority, not military.

America undoubtedly had the potential to win all of those wars (exc cold war) except maybe Korea, but human rights and shit.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted that there is a petition doing the rounds to "keep Australia safe" regarding tightening gun laws and that it shamelessly uses the hashtag #KeepChildrenSafe, Australia's gun laws have been very effective and even if some areas of restrictions have been loosened in no way has it correlated to more gun violence, or more gun violence committed by legally owned and registered firearms.

I have never enjoyed Dylan at all, just one of those massive artists who I find difficult to understand why they are so renowned.
He's renowned for his songwriting more than anything. I struggle to think of one musician who had a better way with words than he did. That said, I can understand why people wouldn't get into his music as his voice can be pretty grating.

His prose is just as good, Chronicles Vol. 1 was amazing.

Cohen, who happens to foster the same criticisms as Dylan.

Good call on Cohen, also a brilliant songwriter. FWIW, Cohen and Dylan may not have the best voices but, to me, it's what makes them unique and interesting. There are so many singers who have great voices but they have no energy or feeling when they sing and just sound incredibly dull as a result. Just look at Sam Smith for example.

Never got into Bob Dylan's stuff, there's probably only a couple of his songs I like, for some reason I bought some double cd anthology of his about 20 years ago and I've barely listened to it since.

I'm a big fan of the Rolling Stones though, mainly their late 60s and early 70s stuff.

Neil Finn is better than all of them.
Not sure about that but he's a great songwriter, certainly the best that NZ has produced and possibly Australia too.

No they haven't. They've won all those hands down in that the special interests got their way. Unless you believe the official version.

America in wars (conflicts, really) post-WWII is a funny one. Would the world be better if they'd 'won' in Korea, Vietnam etc. by dropping A-bombs again?

Bollocks, who trained Osama Lin Laden and The Tailban to get the Ruskies out of Afghanistan? Who helped put tyrannical despots and regimes to power in countries like Libya, Iraq and Egypt in the 70s and 80s etc ?

A lot of problems in the world today (ie Terrorists) are as a result of the USA and their flawed foreign polices, and I don't think they have the moral authority to act as the world's 'Super Police'

Trump was right in one thing saying the US should have never invaded Iraq (the second time around)

Global politics collectively speaking, The US have caused far more problems than anything good, since World War II.
Doesn't take much to realise that starting an illegal war and then committing war crimes was a bad idea.

The Walking Dead. Honestly can't think of a worse television show. It's just really damn bad. Same goes for breaking bad, lost, all that jim jam.
I've never understood why people like shows with zombies so much. I found the actual zombies to be dull, boring and gross.

Advocates for "pay equality" in women's sports should STFU.

Every other day there's a news article on the issue. The latest is the World Surfing League tours.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/more-s...n/news-story/d43a8dc80da651e4627b4aa8f741f27a

ONCE again, we are discussing the issue of equal pay for female athletes, because nothing has really changed.

The topic is in the spotlight today as the finals in the Drug Aware Pro in Western Australia’s Margaret River region wrapped up.

On Friday, event organisers ran both men’s and women’s heats in large, perfect surf, with the same jetski assistance, same-length heats, same formats and same streaming of the event through its various channels, to the same unique audience.

The winner of the men’s event will pocket $100,000, with 36 surfers competing in the event. Tyler Wright, an Australian surfer who the women’s event yesterday, won $60,000. She competed against a group of 18 surfers. Is that fair?
Is it fair? Probably yes. I don't follow surfing but if it's like every other sport on the planet interest in the men's tour usually far outweighs that in the women's.

The total prize purse on the men’s tour in 2016 is $551,000. In the women’s tour it was $275,000.

But it’s not just the disparity in earnings which annoy female surfers, but the fact that sexiness still outsells ability to turn a surfboard.
Surfing isn't a big money spinner as far as international sports goes. The bloke that won the 2015 tour won two events, came second in two more and third in another. Total prize money I'd guess around $1m. That'd pay Wayne Rooney for two or three weeks. Money comes from sponsorship, and sponsorship comes to those who sell.

And really? The sex card? Remind me how many Quiksilver ads involving Kelly Slater have him wearing a shirt? It's a sexy sport, which is why surfers sell boardshorts and bikinis much more than they do surfboards. I don't see too many female surfers complaining that Quiksliver have a brand purely for women (Roxy) or that it sponsors the women's tour and female surfers.

If you want equality start your own tour totally separate from the men's. Get your own administrators, sponsors, broadcasters etc. Or petition to compete with the men. Surfing is one of the few sports where women probably could.
