No, not the movie (good flick BTW, do yourselves a favour and check it out).

Seeing as the trade period is about to commence, I am interested to know which players are absolutely untouchable on our list in your opinions.

It can be for two reasons I suppose. Pure potential talent, or outstanding and longstanding contribution to the club. You know, the guys who the club cannot afford to lose, not in terms of talent, butb their popularity amongst the players and supporters, and their contribution to the farbric of club culture.

Here is mine.

Petrie
Hale
Stevens
Archer
Harvey

Also helps if you rule out Nick Riewoldt in possible transactions.

I wanted to put Motlop on the list, but I will be roundly abused. He hasn't done much yet I know, but he is mor talented that every player on the above list. Whether or not we see it is another story. A query that keeps me awake at night.

Ok then, have a dip.

Who on our list would force you to give a nicely worded p1ss off message to opposition clubs at trade time, all things being equal.

I said in a similar thread some time ago that the only absolute untouchables at North are Stevens,Archer and Harvey. I think all others are tradeable for the right price. I don't think we've got a "Riewoldt" among our young players yet as they've all got so much to prove but I would certainly hate to lose Petrie,Hale and D.Motlop as I think they're potentially the backbone of our future.

Hale and Petrie are quality talls who have already shown a fair bit at their respective levels. No way we can view these guys as tradeable.

D.Motlop is a weird one, immense talent, but that talent hasn't been on show in the seniors yet (in two seasons) for various reasons. Maybe we'll see a Des Headland type of progress soon. Headland was given next to no opportunity early, but has become the competition's most sought after player.

How long do you stick with someone who you KNOW can play, but just can't put it together in the ones?

Archer and Stevens are the lifeblood of the club and they're untouchable. After seeing Schwass, Bell, McKernan and now Carey depart, it'd be nice to see a few more guys finish their careers as one-club players to defy the modern trend. Both have come off terrific seasons too.

Harvey is arguably our best player, but in a way he is not irreplaceable. Quality smalls aren't as hard to come by as quality talls. Of course I don't want him anywhere but at North, all I am saying is that he'd be easier to replace than a (fully developed) Hale or Petrie.

Thought about Simmo, but he is tradeable IMO. Hopefully the way he plays in changed under Laidley (more handball, less helicopters), which will see his value to the team increase.

Teague will be fantastic for a long time, but out of the current group of younger players already playing regular senior football, he has the least improvement in him IMO.

We will not see the likes of Glenn Archer ever again. Not in North Melbourne's or any other team's colours. EVER!

Agree on both counts.

Simpson might have to refine his role similar to how West, Misiti, Ratten have done. They aren't exactly inaccurate kicks, but kicking isn't their strength - hard ball gets are. Get it, and shovel it off by hand to someone who can hit a target from 50 metres.

Teague is probably the most advanced of our youngsters in terms of holding down a spot, and therefore won't have as much improvement as the younger blokes (D.Motlop, Watson, Hale). Those last three could be superstars, Teague will go on to play 200-250 games but he will always be Mr.Dependable (Ross Smith, Guy McKenna, Andy McKay) rather than a match winner.

Once again let's not confuse the hypothetical of labelling untouchables, with actually hawking these guys for trades. When naming untouchables I think you have to limit yourself to 3-4 players, especially considering the turnover of 8-10 players a year. Occasionally a Grant/Schwass trade comes up where someone that seems untouchable can be traded for a win-win trade, and had Schwass been labelled untouchable we wouldn't have even been in the running for Shannon Grant.

My list of untouchables are:

Adam Simpson, Brent Harvey, Glenn Archer, Anthony Stevens, Daniel Motlop, David Hale, Daniel Harris, Drew Petrie, Digby Morrell, David Teague.

Having said that, some of those would all depend on what the deal in exchange was.

This is exaclty what I hope happens. west is a good kick IMO, but he is a great handballer. Laidley and Simmo have to wiegh it up. If Simmo has another 500 posession year next year, with 150 of those kicks from this year turned into a hand to off to Harvey, King or Makepeace we will be much harder to beat.

Teague is probably the most advanced of our youngsters in terms of holding down a spot, and therefore won't have as much improvement as the younger blokes (D.Motlop, Watson, Hale). Yep. Teague will play very few bad games for the next 10 years. He is excellent already IMO. If he is anywhere near McKenna by the end of his career, we win flags again. Hale is amazing for a bloke still growing, having just turned 18. I frickin hate saying this, but he moves excactly like Nick Riewodlt. Deceptively fast, and for a guy who stands at 201 cm's, is mind boggling below his knees. Watson needs food and quick. Great hands in close for a little fella, and the very best kick at the club, no word of a lie. Motlop could be anything. All I will say.

All this talk about the potential of our young brigade is wearing my patience paper thin waiting for next season. Even if your half right, with a new coach next year is looking very exciting.

For mine Stevens and Archer are the only untouchables at North. As Darky said, these guys are the heart and soul of our club. The Leadership and Passion for the club is irreplaceable.

Hey People, here is my list of untouchables for the Kangaroos.

Untouchables:
1: Anthony Stevens
2: Glen Archer
3: Brent Harvey
4: Leigh Harding
5: Adam Simpson
6: Troy Makepeace
7: Daniel Motlop
8: David Teague

Almost untouchable but anything could happen:
1: Byron Pickett
2: David Hale
3: Shannon Grant
4: Drew Petrie
5: Jess Sinclair
6: David King
7: Leigh Colbert
8: Corey Jones

*Spider Burton is the exception lol he doesnt need to be on untouchables list Cos he is da man hehe ;)

I'd say all of our draftees from the past 2 years are untouchable. With Laidley saying he is going to play youngsters next year, why would we want to even think about trading them. Put them in the seniors, let them play some quality game time, and then sort out the good from the bad at the end of next year. There is no point drafting a 17 year old, grooming him for 2 years and then trading him.

I'd add Harvey, Simpson, Archer, Stevens and Colbert to this list.

It depends on what the reasons for their non performance are. The fact that both his seasons thus far have been hugely injury affected, and yet he has still managed to dominate at VFL level is very encouraging.

He often looked a class above, particularly in the forward line this year... one on one he seemed unbeatable at times. I've no doubt he will take the step up this year, particularly with increased opportunity/responsibility under Laidley.

I'd be prepared to go along with all of that. I might add Leigh Harding to the list but mostly because he's my mate.
Just on Riewoldt - Neville Stibbard told North officials to do all they could to get hold of the 1st pick that year, much the same way Hawthorn did in order to get Hodge, and Essendon did with Lloyd in 1994. He described him as a once-in-a-decade type player. Unfortunately the Saints felt the same way. They don't appear to be wrong!
I'm sure most of you know Neville hosted Riewoldt at his home in the months before he was drafted. He spent the week training at Arden St and was introduced to all the players. They still speak I'm told. Just in case...

I said he would replace him as a player not that he would be the same sort of player as Arch. Mind you I think that Teague is a tough player.
