I thought it was a good performance this morning. We definitely have the upper hand going into the second leg.

What an awesome goal from Adebayor. Super finish.

I also thought Fabianski was very good coming on as a sub. A very mature performance between the sticks.

Good to get a result away! Great bicycle kick from Ade!

How bad are the Alumnia and Gallas injuries?
Initial reports say Almunia has a recurring ankle problem which might be 2 weeks. Gallas has ligament damage which probably means his season is over. Wenger said initial prognosis of Gallas is not good but he has scans today. Might be the last time we see Gallas in an Arsenal shirt.

We will miss Gallas in the cup competitions primarily. I think we can cover for him as we hold on for 4th place but his experience in big games could be a massive loss for a potential FA/CL final. This is why Silvestre was a good get from Wenger. Djourou could probably play more games towards the end of the season but Silvestre would be a better option in the big games.
Apart from his Man City debut Gibbs has done well this season so I am fairly confident in him. Clichy has been flat for the past few weeks, so he might have had a slight back problem for a while.
We will get a good look at our potential future defense over the next few weeks. Gibbs, Djourou and Fabianksi could do alot for their reputations and confidence by putting in some good performances.

Never feel comfortable with Silvestre in CB. We always seem to concede with him playing.

Gibbs has been flawless in the games he has played this season. Hope we can hang on to him, could be a gem and overtake Clichy.

Apart from his Man City debut Gibbs has done well this season so I am fairly confident in him.
That was Gavin Hoyte.

It was too, I try to forget that match. I think regardless of who partners Toure there are going to be a few nervy moments. I just worry about Djourou in the big games, thats all. I think Silvestre could add experience but Djourou could be a better option.

I reckon Wenger will play Silvestre at left back in the CL and bigger games.

Hope not though.

As for the Wigan match ...

Fabianski
Sagna - Toure - Djourou - Gibbs
Walcott - Song - Fabregas - Nasri
Adebayor - Arshavin

Subs: Mannone, Silvestre, Eboue, Denilson, Ramsey, Bendtner, Vela

Sidelined: Almunia, Gallas, Clichy, Rosicky
(Diaby, Van Persie, Eduardo) - These three are very doubtful but haven't been ruled out

I think Ade should be rested after coming back from injury. He is in great form so he should come on as a sub in the second half.

That's true, Wigan aren't the kindest team going around so wouldn't be surprised if Theo is rested either especially if RVP is passed fit.

Wenger on the defence ...

“I am completely confident,” the Frenchman declared.

“We have Mikael Silvestre and we have Johan Djourou [who can play at centre back]. But we have lost Gael as well for two to three weeks so at the back we are a bit short.

“At the moment yes Kieran Gibbs will play. I will see how well he does – he will play on Saturday. He is a player; I am confident that he will do well.

“And I have full confidence in Lukasz Fabianski. He has shown that when he came on the other night that he can deal with a situation very well.

“I am not worried for them; I’m confident they can cope with that.”

Official team:

Fabianski
Sagna - Toure - Djourou - Gibbs
Song - Denilson
Walcott - Fabregas - Arshavin
Bendtner

Subs: Szczesny, Nasri, Van Persie, Vela, Silvestre, Adebayor, Eboue

Took a guess at the formation, more likely a 4-1-4-1

Wojciech Szczesny is “hungrier than ever” after recovering from two broken arms.

On Monday, the young goalkeeper made his first reserve-team appearance since October 6, keeping a clean sheet in Arsenal’s goalless draw at Chelsea.

Despite now feeling physically fit after his unfortunate training ground accident late last year, the 18-year-old admits that he needs to play games if he is to return to his best.

“Oh yes, I am hungrier than ever,” the Polish keeper told Arsenal.com. “But I do need games and I don’t feel too comfortable yet.

“I thought I did ok against Chelsea but I can’t quite feel the distance between me and my defenders. It will take some time to get back because I was out for quite a long time but hopefully I’ll get there.

“It was quite an annoying time for me. It was an accident at the training ground and I broke both arms in the gym. I am very happy now to be over it and I am looking forward to playing some games and doing well.

“There was nothing I could do once I got injured. I knew I would be working hard on my lower body in the gym and it has paid off because I feel very strong now.”

Wojciech is one of four goalkeepers to have appeared between the sticks for Neil Banfield’s second-string this season. But, far from being put off by the competition for places, the Warsaw-born man is relishing the fight.

“I love the challenge, and I think everyone at the Club feels the same,” he said. “I am looking forward to pushing the first-team goalkeepers and hopefully next season I will be fighting for a place.

“I think we will be rotating in the reserves. I am just looking forward to playing any games. If Vito [Mannone] is chosen over me then I have to understand it because he is the Club’s third-choice keeper so they need to keep him on his toes and ready to play.

“I am happy to rotate.”
Don't really know anything about him, here is an article from early this season. I guess Mannone is injured or this guy has done well in the reserves. Probably went for his 1 rep max on the bench press in regards to his injury.

Absolute nightmare of a half.

Dreadful performance. Djourou off injured. One nil down. Gibbs should've been sent off at the end.

From the free kick, Watson hits the post. Could've been even worse ...
