At least we didn't lose, we should beat Dortmund at home to seal our place in the last 16.

Even though RvP played 30, it was better than him playing a full 90, that rest will do him good.

No, Wenger is being way too overprotective.

RVP's only played about 120 mins since the Marseille away leg 2 weeks ago. And after the league game this weekend, there's an International Break.

The Dortmund game will be much tougher than this one BTW. They have a lot more talent and it is a must-win game for them.

We should still get at least one win and qualify but now top spot has opened up.

RvP always seems to injure himself during the international breaks over the last few seasons. Let's hope its not the same this time around. The man is in career best form and although I don't believe we're a one man team, we can't deny how reliant we are upon him. Especially without a quality back up (Chamakh looks average and Park is untested)

Dortmund will be a massive game. This season we need to finish top and hopefully avoid the likes of Barca in the next round by finishing first

Park's passing needs work, he can't fit into the Arsenal system yet like RVP does, too many passes just went straight to the opposition, his finishing is clinical, but as a striker who drops deep, he gives the ball away too much

On a positive note, it was great to see TV back and looking very solid, it's just a matter of determining whether Mertesacker or Koscielny is a better partner for him

Agreed. I believe kos has done enough of late to earn his spot alongside TV, ahead of per. However, with Sagna out for a couple of months there's a possibility that per and TV will stay at CB, with kos pushed to RB (if jenkinson struggles)

If we were to pick one CB to play all games next to Tommy V then yeah I would take Kos as well. But Mertesacker wasn't bought by Wenger to sit on the bench so I would assume he will be given first crack next to Tommy V over the next few weeks.

Kos is easily a superior player. Yes, easily.

I rate him above Cahill as well FWIW. He'd be rated about the level of Djourou if he weren't English.

i'd like to see Kos at right back because his one weakness has been his forays forward which generally lead to nothing except him being out of position, if we put him at right back he can do this more often and it should result in less mistakes, it's easy to see he wants to go forward, he just shouldn't be doing it with his experience from CB

What has Per done wrong to lose his position?
not a huge deal tbh, didn't mark Lampard well for Chelsea's opener last week, and same with Terry for a corner, it's more what Koscielny's done to suggest he's superior, no mistakes, cutting out many dangerous attacks, that kind of thing

Per's speed will also always scare fans, it's more right now though that Koscielny is in better form and looked closest to faultless against Chelsea, so on form he deserves the spot

Didn't you see us concede three last week? Koscielny was immense but Per looked suspect.

Koscielny has shown much more over the last few weeks than Per has.
Did you see Djourou last week?

I'd rather Per play at RB and when he's as slow as a wet week, that's saying something.

Rubbish. Not even trolling here. Koscielny is easily one of the more mistake-prone CBs in the EPL. See Carling Cup final and Blackburn game.

Mertesacker is probably a better suited partner to Vermaelen, mainly due to his dominance in the air. He's started slow for your mob, but when confidence is high, he's easily one of the most composed centre-backs in the world.

Clearly you know next to nothing, mertesacker is anything but dominant in the the air and in that blackburn game kos was unlucky.

Do agree with you when you say mertesacker is composed when he has the ball.

i believe per will come good, however would like to see koscielny and TV start tonight.

djourou as our RB really does worry me. both he and santos were caught a number of times in the first half against chelsea last week, however we dodged a bullet as chelsea didnt put away their chances like us. djourou really impressed me last season, however since his broken collarbone in april he really hasnt been the same. confidence is down and makes some horrible mistakes, his game against blackburn a month ago was the lowpoint.

hopefully with TV back, the back 4 can now settle themselves and gel together

Djourou has always been incosistent for me. Had an absolute blinder against Chelsea last season at The Emirates where he kept Drogba in his pocket like it was nothing.

With him playing at RB, you have to give him some leeway as it's not his natural position, still though, he should do better than what he does.

Santos is not a defender by any means, he'd be good on the wing, but at LB he is a disaster waiting to happen.

If only Sagna was fit.

Yeah, a player standing at 6"6 really must be poor in the air. He won just about every aerial ball in the NLD. Can't see how Koscielny is any better than him in that regard.

Kos is prone to mistakes but when he has a good game (which is getting increasingly more frequent), he is awesome.

Hopefully, the increased competition for spots keeps him on his game.

He starts tonight BTW.
