yeah handy squad hey. how good was the midfield - a powerhouse in vieria (who has never been replaced by the way) supported by gun flankers in ljungberg and pires. freddie i remember was in scintillating form towards the end of the 2001/2 season, he scored something like 12 goals in our last 13 games and we won about 13 straight to clinch the title.

amazing team all round. adams retires shortly thereafter and wenger converts kolo toure from wide player to a beast of a centre back alongside sol campbell. brilliant stuff
Gilberto was good, did his job well. Flamini would have been ideal but he ****ed off for more money.

Will always remember Ljungberg's goal in the FA Cup Final. Was epic.

Toure wasn't that great of a defender, his speed helped him out a lot. Campbell was a beast though.

Toure held his own but moreso looked a class above because he was alongside the great Sol. They were an excellent combination, ably supported by quality fullbacks of course in lauren/cashley

Freddie scored in back to back FA cup finals. unfortunately we lost at the death against liverpool but a year later he scored an absolute gem, was a magnificent solo effort. in fact i recall our first was just as good - ray parlour of all people took on the chelsea defence and scored with a curling shot from well outside the box

flamini could have been anything. did his apprenticeship with us and plied his trade alongside some quality players, then chased the dollars along with his mate hleb.

Campbell was brilliant. Rock solid, composed, intelligent, strong, fast, the guy had it all at his disposal. Vermaelen is the best defender we've had since him probably, or maybe Gallas. hmm.

2001 FA Cup made me hate Liverpool till about this year. Parlour's goal was awesome, great crack.

Yeah, can't forget Hleb leaving the noisy city of London for the much quiet city of Barcelona

I remember that game, or at least I think I do.
That was the game where Hyypia robbed us with a dirty hand-ball on the goal line wasn't it?

TV needs someone like Keown as a partner. Someone who will stay back and wear an opponent like a glove, so Vermaelen can push forward.

Can't remember, was 10 years ago and I just started following football.

Kos and TV will be great together.
Haha, turns out it was Henchoz, not Hyypia. I've had a seething hatred for Hyypia for 10 years for no reason it seems. Robbed us, the bastards.

I sincerely hope they will be a strong partnership. They are quite similar in their athleticism and confidence in defending. This worries me, as it was such a similarity that doomed the partnership of Gallas and Toure. Also, their tendencies to push forward could leave us exposed at the back, especially until Sagna is back.

Saying that it was Henchoz, I do remember that now.

It's a shame Gallas lost it, he was a beast at Chelsea, and I think he could have replicated that had he had not gone bonkers. Could play anywhere across the back four too.

While TV and Kos are both ball playing CB's, they are intelligent (Kos did struggle a bit last season though), they will develop an understanding with each other, as we can already see, and they are only both going to get better.

Yeah that game still burns me too. That damn long ball at the death from patrick berger that owen latched on to to win it, we didnt put away our chances that day and paid for it. Ah well we more than made up for it over the following years.

Having said that, im still amazed we somehow won the 2005 cup final against man united. They dominated, we barely fired a shot and then stole it on penalties. Swings and roundabouts I guess

Agreed on gallas. he really was a sensational defender for us. Was quality at chelsea too, but he stepped up another level with us. Could play full back or centre half, one of those rare adaptable defenders. Was brilliant but yeah as we know he famously lost his sh#t during the Birmingham game and the rest is history. Wenger had to take the captaincy from him and the dressing room couldnt handle his ego. He was awesome for spurs against us last year too when we played them at the lane

anyway, 4 teams now on 22 points, obviously a goal difference took a hit from the 8-2 loss but we've done well to claw back from that. spurs have 2 games in hand on us though

can hopefully seal our progression to the next round this thursday morning against dortmund

Haha, that reminds me. The Monday morning after our win I was wearing an Arsenal shirt and just managed to board the bus on time on the way to uni. Bus driver saw me and being a utd fan quipped "I shouldn't have let you in with that on. ****ing daylight robbery"
