unusual for arsenal.com to run an article like this about gourcuff on their homepage, they rarely acknowledge any speculation regarding reported transfer target.

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-midfield-too-crowded-for-gourcuff

maybe it means we'll sign him? ;)

and just because our midfield is 'crowded', doesn't mean that the current players are that good to keep a player like gourcuff out

Gourcuff is shit anyway.

And we're not signing Podolski - not in January anyway. Park and Chamakh aren't getting games as it is and Wenger doesn't like keeping established players out of the side for too long. He's not going to drop them further down the pecking order.

Isn't gourcuff gay? read it somewhere.

Him and chamack are very good friends and team up very well. Though chamack will be gone come end of the season. Back to boardux.

Very strange, Glen.

They are even slack when we sign someone. Very, very, strange.
and furthermore, they've run the story regarding mertersacker's comments on henry as the lead story...perhaps some foreshadowing, or could be completely irrelevant. time will tell...

As I said, they are slack even when we sign a player. Deals are not usually confirmed for a few days on the official website even though they are set in stone everywhere else. Them, or any club releasing specualtion on their own website is bizarre in any sense.

Not sure what you've been reading Latro.

Gotta side with Latro here, I definitely see Arsenal have some rumours on the site before. (an example of it is http://www.arsenal.com/media-watch )

Podolski can play out wide as well so he'd be a good signing but it won't happen. Gourcuff isn't really that good either. Rather get that Marvin Martin or whatever his name is if we were to get someone which I don't think we will. Still need a goal scoring midfielder though.

I reckon we'll get Henry and some random loan signing as well. Probably another kid as well. Not going to really address our issues, probably will get a bit of depth for the rest of the season. We really need to spend come July/August though, the squad is a top 4 side but are we just a top 4 side or are we a side that thinks we can challenge for the top spot. Not at the moment it seems.

There must be an exclusive WA edition that we don't have access to ;)

I should've qualified my earlier comment before, I can see where the confusion has arisen. Yes the media watch section has been there for a little while as a sidebar linking to arsenal speculation in the press. What I was moreso saying its very rare for the homepage itself to run a lead story (with comments directly from wenger) talking about a transfer target (gourcuff). To the best of my knowledge, this hasnt happened in a long time if at all.

Usually, the lead stories are consumed with the usual stuff like 'wenger - our team spirit is quality', 'theo - missing world cup has been my motivation this season' or 'van persie - our passing game has helped me score goals' etc etc

Even in the face of intense media speculation linking us to a particular player (such as hazard), wenger rarely acknowledges it and won't comment directly, let alone for the website to run a lead story.

Anyway, I just thought that was intriguing and somewhat unusual, as cruyff said too it sometimes takes them days to put the official story up regarding a new acquisition - sometimes after the player has already had an interview published on soccernet.com for example. Whether there's more to it or not, I don't know...but wouldn't be surprised now to see us sign gourcuff ;)

Henry, this will be interesting, I`m sure he`s not going to come in and demand things, from what I heard the old ego was a little out of control as his time ended first time around. The two months will fly by, does he get the yid game ? He owned them.

Podolski can play on the left.

Don't know if Koln would let him go though, as he only returned not long ago. He is pretty much the lifeblood of Koln. Without him, they'd be in the relegation zone.

From Soccernet -

Henry set for two-month loan

Arsenal's record goalscorer Thierry Henry has been offered the chance to return to the Gunners on a two-month loan deal, according to widespread press reports on Thursday evening.

New York Red Bulls striker Henry, 34, has been training with Arsenal since the MLS season ended in November, and Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in the Frenchman as cover for Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho who will be heading to the African Cup of Nations next month.

Henry, who is expected to sign the contract in the next 48 hours, could feature in seven Premier League games, as well as FA Cup ties and the Champions League last-16 match with AC Milan. He would return to the USA on March 10 ahead of the new MLS season.

LA Galaxy striker Landon Donovan agreed a similar deal with Everton earlier this month, and he will also return to one of his former clubs.

Defender Per Mertesacker has backed a move for Henry.

"Henry has a lot of experience and he is a great opportunity for us, but I am not the manager and I do not know what is possible, for him or for us," Mertesacker said. "In training, Henry shows his class and [it is good] to have him with us. He still has the same attitude he showed in a lot of games at Arsenal."

Let's hope so lads! Would be pretty concrete now I'd say.
