Anyway, the Arsenal announcement should be any moment now. I’d imagine he wanted to ensure his farewell was posted first, given the leaked Havertz video prior to his announcement (which denied Havertz the chance to post his farewell/thanks to Chelsea first).

What a time to be alive. A real, true, huge statement signing.

Manchester City bid £90 million and Bayern were trying to convince him to join for months - but it was us, Arsenal, that signed him. Absolute statement of intent.

Now people are carrying on about his price, and yes he is a DM. But that position is so important these days, especially for sides that set-up the way Arteta (and Pep, etc) have their sides play. They are the linchpin.

If he plays well for even a few years then no one will be questioning the fee. If we have him playing good football into his thirties (six whole seasons away), then it will have been an absolute bargain.

I would love for us to hold on to Partey too. Playing him, Dec and Odegaard against more physical teams would be great.

Yes if Partey was to exit, that would leave the squad light in that position which Arteta/Edu are well aware of. Another signing would certainly happen.

Personally I’d prefer Partey stays. However there’s more to this than meets the eye maybe, the off field stuff perhaps.

This next phase of the window is going to be telling. Pepe, Lokonga, Tavares I don’t believe will be on the US tour. Their futures need sorting out. On top of the ongoing question marks on Balogun, Holding, Tierney (seems quiet on him at the moment). Cedric too.

I always interpreted those comments from Cedric as along the lines of “pay my contract out”. Which he’s well entitled to wait for given how many others Arsenal have paid out to go away. At a minimum I think we’d be looking at a heavily subsidised deal if he was to find a new club given his current wages.

I really like the prospect of having Partey in the squad. Utilised with Rice in some fixtures, or one of them as the single pivot depending. With Jorginho in the mix as well, it’s a very strong group to draw from with the league and CL to contend with.

Losing both Partey AND Xhaka at the same time is too much change for me. It wouldn’t make sense to me on face value. Which is why I can’t help but question how much of a factor is the off field stuff in what Arsenal will or won’t do with him this summer.
