Is it arrogance on Edu/Arteta's part? Sheer negligence perhaps? Were they resting on their laurels? For all their great work over the last two main windows this has been an unforgivable error.
I don’t get that sense that the club has been negligent here, if anything I think Arteta/Edu have sought to reduce our reliance on Partey. The way we set up now especially in possession, inverted fullbacks, almost a 2-5-3 formation with Zinchenko and White basically taking positions in midfield.
The fullbacks touch the ball a lot now and are involved in lots of passing. It helps having a completely transformative centre half like Saliba there as well who is another excellent distributor.
Having said all of that, no one else can really play the ball at that speed like Partey does. So there’s options yes, and it’s still another blow that he’s facing yet another lengthy spell on the sidelines. I feel though we’re much better equipped to deal with it, providing of course that not multiple players are injured at the same time (classic Arsenal problem we’ve seen many times over the years). Let’s see.
