Is it arrogance on Edu/Arteta's part? Sheer negligence perhaps? Were they resting on their laurels? For all their great work over the last two main windows this has been an unforgivable error.

I don’t get that sense that the club has been negligent here, if anything I think Arteta/Edu have sought to reduce our reliance on Partey. The way we set up now especially in possession, inverted fullbacks, almost a 2-5-3 formation with Zinchenko and White basically taking positions in midfield.

The fullbacks touch the ball a lot now and are involved in lots of passing. It helps having a completely transformative centre half like Saliba there as well who is another excellent distributor.

Having said all of that, no one else can really play the ball at that speed like Partey does. So there’s options yes, and it’s still another blow that he’s facing yet another lengthy spell on the sidelines. I feel though we’re much better equipped to deal with it, providing of course that not multiple players are injured at the same time (classic Arsenal problem we’ve seen many times over the years). Let’s see.

I don't know if we'll sign anyone else. I don't get the 'last minute' vibes of previous years. It's obvious we could do with a couple more signings, but this new era Arsenal just won't purchase anyone unless they're the right fit or it's the right price. Just not feeling it.

I remember Arteta saying he feels the squad is still a bit “short” and he’d like more “firepower”. That was after the Pepe loan and before the latest injuries to Partey, Zinchenko and now Elneny.

So there’s likely targets in mind and resources available, however executing that plan this late in the window is another challenge.

For the Villa match tomorrow morning, surely Sambi comes in now.

I like the idea of Ben White taking on the Partey role, bring Tomiyasu into right back.

Some are suggesting Zinchenko a chance to play as well.

Not sure Arteta tried that during pre season or not when experimenting with different set ups, I don’t think White featured in midfield (can’t recall it right now).

I do remember though there were periods of Sambi playing in that left sided 8 position in place of Xhaka, looked decent enough. And at the base of midfield, which I think he’s next in line to do so tomorrow morning. Time will tell.

Should’ve won by more I feel, deserved that win. Once again we hit back so soon after conceding a goal, when so many previous Arsenal sides collapse after that.

5 wins from 5, brilliant stuff.

Yes I thought Ramsdale was impeded there, Arsenal should’ve more aware of the danger from that corner as well. Saka should’ve had a penalty earlier I felt, he’d be kicking himself for missing a few chances overall.

Martinelli man of the match for me. Always baffled when I read criticism of him over the last few months. Jesus coming in has really helped him accelerate his development. In excellent touch and now finding the back of the net to show for his efforts.

Opposition get a goal... Arsenal pfft we can do better! Lol how good has our response been to when they get goals!

Should of been 2 or 3 up when Aston Villa got the goal... Need to finish teams off a little better... But 3 points is 3 points 🙂🙂

AMN loaned to Southampton as well. 3 attempts made for Luiz however looking unlikely as Villa unwilling to sell.

Frustrating but overall it was still a good window. No doubt we will fall back into a race for 4th given the fragility with our midfield options. Still lack depth in a few other areas, so burnout is a huge risk.
