I think it is being done because of Zinchenko's injury. Partey is the one that plays inverted best until Zinchenko is fully fit. Once he's back, one of Partey or Havertz will be benched.Hopefully this is the death of Partey at right back. Doesn’t feel a consider tactical switch, if it was we would have used it at least one time in preseason.
It is being done to squeeze Havertz into the starting lineup, he is being picked in price, not form. If Arteta genuinely wanted to shake up the formation, Trossard would be the one crowbarred in based on form.
Havertz needs to go to the bench and Gabriel come back in. And if we are going to make the monument error of selling Gab, then Kivior comes in to centre back.
My thoughts too. Partey being inverted from the right means we don’t have the White/Saka relationship and Partey won’t overlap with Saka. You saw the difference once Zinny came on and White reverted to right back. Zinny is also far more progressive in the midfield.I think it is being done because of Zinchenko's injury. Partey is the one that plays inverted best until Zinchenko is fully fit. Once he's back, one of Partey or Havertz will be benched.
And because we're inverting from the right, Gabriel, as a left CB has to make way. Once we return to inverting from the left, Gabriel returns and White shifts to right back. That's my read, anyway.
What I will say, as a criticism of Arteta, is that he picked Trossard over Nketiah so that Havertz had more of a central role. He may have done it as a preferred tactical change. But I have this nagging doubt that he might have chalked this game as a win before we played it and took an opportunity to get Havertz into some kind of form... which, if true, backfired sadly.
Title contender ? Come onI can understand what Arteta is trying to implement, it just simply hasn't worked thus far
When we reverted to a system more reminiscent of last season, we looked a millions times more likely
When we have the ball, it almost seems like our players are confused about what to do next, giving opponents an opportunity to sit back and defend. Poor Partey just isn't suited to being in that role
Rice has been excellent so far, love the amount of work he puts in and links the play perfectly. Havertz not so much. Just doesn't seem to have any sort of urgency about him, kinda floating around doing a whole heap of nothing
Viera was fantastic after coming on too; he and Zinchenko made things happen
Not looking like a title contender at the minute but hopefully it is simply the new guys bedding in and the longer the season goes, the better we'll get
