I forgot who mentioned it in this thread, about the Ramsdale/Raya thing. There was essentially a camera always on Ramsdale in readiness for any reaction or a mistake from Raya. It’s a bit of a sideshow concurrent to Arsenal matches now.

And as good as Raya was against PSV, I gotta say (aside from that excellent save) he was quite ordinary last night. Distribution was poor, turned the ball over a few times and seeing the replay again of their first goal, I don’t know why he doesn’t tip it over the bar in the build up.

Agree with everything you’ve said. Arteta has created this circus because he couldn’t wait to play with his shiny new toy. It is crap for Ramsdale, and probably not great for Raya. Did that pressure impact Raya’s performance? We don’t know, but he clearly had a poor night.

Same is playing out with Havertz. Arteta is desperate to get him a goal and end that circus, but he was the wrong sub last night. He was so safe with his passing, he didn’t eff anything up, but he never threatened to create anything for us.

Yes perhaps the occassion got to Raya, a match of this intensity. With all due respect to his days at Brentford, he may not be as accustomed to matches of this calibre.

I can’t help but feel for Ramsdale. Very popular figure around the club.

Arteta however speaks of the levels and phases needed to win the major trophies. That level of ruthlessness is needed with the CF position. I really think there’s legs to the Toney rumours in January.

Whether that’s possible or not I don’t know, it might be hampered by our inability to sell as well as we would’ve liked in the summer to offset and recoup fees (the Holding transaction to Palace was ridiculously bad imo).

However if Arsenal are positioned well in the new year, for perhaps a tilt at the title or who knows, even in the CL with a favourable draw, acquiring someone like Toney would be amazing. I never forget the torrid time he gave Saliba last season, about the only forward who has consistently troubled him so far.

499 days since the last start for ESR, by all accounts he did well in the right 8 position. I’ve been scrounging around for YouTube highlights, don’t have bein sports and am already over subscribed to the other streaming services haha.

He should’ve scored actually, nice save to keep him out. Nelson took his chance well. Havertz really could’ve hit his chance earlier.

If Saka was fit I was almost certain Arteta would still start him. I know very little of 19 year old Sagoe Jr however nice to see him given a debut on the right.

Brentford put Arsenal under a lot of pressure that second half and if the margin just wasn’t the one goal, I am guessing that’s why Arteta turned to Odegaard, Jesus, Zinchenko from the bench. If the game was more comfortable perhaps some more youth like Walters could have been introduced.

West Ham away in the next round.

It is always tough to get the flow of a game from highlights, but man that looked bad. Some appalling defending, very lucky to be going through.
Yes, but the flip side is we played a weakened team against a strong Brentford 11 away from home and won. Just have to ride the bumps as best we can and hope we don't lose touch with the top of the table.

Got to be careful with my drinking... the grand final soon... then the more important game later on... 11:30 my time 😁 and a Saturday night 🕺🕺🕺

Saka, Rice and Saliba have at least travelled with the squad and have been sighted at the team hotel. Not sure if they’re fit enough to start however. No mention of Vieira though, I think he’s out.

Would like to see ESR as the left 8 however predicting it will be Havertz. Nelson really should start on the wing, I certainly want Jesus central.
