Yep, my reaction too. Havertz was right behind Trossard for potentially a tap in. However it was also potentially offside with the pass to Saliba, it was the last kick of the game literally, so who knows really.

Both Inter and Chelsea games show we are on the verge of really clicking. Just have to roll through to February and bring the gap down to around 3 points. Then let the games roll in. So many tough teams away in the first 11 games and never a settled squad with the injuries we've had. Probably the only time I'd ever say the international break has come at a good time.

Certainly explains why he’s looked hampered recently, and has been known to play through pain regularly.
Would be very helpful to have Tomiyasu back asap. The worry is the workload and requirements of fullbacks in this Arsenal system, is there a higher chance of injuries? I don’t know. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons we’ve stockpiled in that area, there’s usually 2-3 of them absent at any particular time.

Having Odegaard back has made such a difference. We looked like the side we did last season with how dominant we were.

Very impressive performance, much more akin to what Arsenal are capable of. Had some worrying signs prior to the break, yes much has been said about the red cards, injuries, tough fixtures etc however that can only account for so much. The abject performance at Newcastle for example, the way Havertz was being run into the ground, reluctance to bring in players from the squad etc etc. Not great signs.
However perhaps this break came at a good time. Arteta could’ve spent two weeks with Sterling, Jesus, Jorginho etc in training getting them prepped for this big run of fixtures to the new year. Jesus is someone who can really contribute if he can recapture a glimpse of that first few months when he joined the club.
Jorginho I just cannot understand how under utilised he’s been. I’m baffled by that. He’s a the puppet master out there, everything goes through him and he was brilliant this first half before that soft yellow that likely was the catalyst for his sub. Combined well with Merino, first minutes I believe they’ve had together so far.
Saka outstanding. As was Odegaard. All of a sudden new life has been created in attack, with Timber so much better on the right providing the overlap. Lovely little dink for Saka from Odegaard, that’s what has been missing within the box. The finishes were class, same for Partey.
Arteta made some bold decisions here and he really needed to. Cannot keep grinding the same players 3 times a week and not have contributions from the wider squad. We won this one without a minute being played by Rice, Havertz and Martinelli. That’s an excellent result and understandably if Arsenal faltered here all of the questions would be centred on the selection.
To be able to sub out Saka and Odegaard on 80 minutes is exactly what needs to be happening if Arsenal are going to challenge deep this season. Nwaneri in every cameo looks like he’s ready to me.
Away to Sporting next, with the squad all of a sudden looking a bit stronger in terms of numbers and availability. Arsenal just have to accumulate as many points as possible in the league and navigate the away CL games in particular, and come the new year reassess from there.

What impressed me the pace in our attack. Everything has been sp slow and ponderous of late, that was throwback to our best of last season.
Yes for sure. So often we’d reach the edge of the box and the horseshoe of death shape took over, knock it sideways again and again. Rinse and repeat. The deft pass Odegaard played in for the first for example, that’s been missing for the last month.
Whilst it’s easy to point to the reason being Odegaard has been injured for two months, I absolutely still feel that the formation had grown stale and Arteta missed opportunities to make changes within that attacking set up. Hopefully now though this is the kickstart of some genuine momentum.

The Odegaard injury has been such bad timing being this season when City are completely shitting the bed.
I do wonder why he held back so long with Nwaneri. Clearly creative, likes to move it forward all the time, something the team was screaming out for in Odegaard's absence.
I get he's young and needs to be nurtured, but he was definitely underutilised IMO.

Fixtures will come thick and fast now, away to Sporting tomorrow morning. I think it’s 4 or perhaps 5 away European matches Arsenal haven’t scored in, that stat needs correcting. Gyokeres in ridiculously good form and looking forward to seeing him against Gabriel and Saliba tomorrow morning.
