Yes I still think there's a gap in depth on the wings, and in CM. January will be very active for a number of clubs. Always a bit of a flurry after a world cup. Interesting to see if we go back in for Luiz on a much cheaper fee (given he'd have 6 months left on his contract then), or more likely we might aim higher and perhaps look to bring in that long term Partey like signing.

ESR will hopefully be back then as well (like a new signing).
There have been a couple of whisperings of late about us making a pitch for Jude Bellingham. It got me thinking about our prospects next summer if we make the Champions League. I'd like us to have a crack at Declan Rice.

Granted, doesn't help us in January, and Luiz might be a target simply because I can't see us extending Elneny for another year. But a proper replacement for Partey will require a significant investment.

Yep that's the next acquisition to make and the funds will be there to do so. The club has invested heavily into the GK and fullback/defensive positions in recent windows. The CF position was the main target in the window just closed. Saka, Nketiah and ESR coming through the youth system, on top of Martinelli being quite a low cost signing, has saved the club 100m+ investing into those forward areas.

And next up will be in CM, Arteta/Edu will be backed again as they have been.Whether it happens in January or next summer, remains to be seen. Whoever it is though I would imagine would fit the similar age profile and would be a long term signing.

A great time to play Liverpool with their frailties.

Have been buzzing all morning from the result, we have bad record against them so it was nice to be able to go on the way to correcting that.

Can’t remember the last time we played this well, and we were this good.

Went to the casino to watch. Great atmosphere and game to watch. Had a pair of brothers who had been talking themselves up for weeks that they will beat us and they didn't even show their face. Gonna gloat so much!

Very good performance. Think we played it smartly sitting back and trying to hit them on the break. Liverpool like to try and do that to teams, so we made it difficult for them. They struggled once Diaz went off too which really helped us.

Think we were a bit fortunate in some ways. I think that was a handball from Gabriel and that Jesus won a soft penalty but the number of times it doesn't go our way, I am not complaining.

Martinelli though - wow he is just so hard to nullify. We are just so fortunate. Then add Saka back in form and a silky Jesus, that Liverpool backline really struggled.

Gabriel still always worries me. I feel like he's so prone to those costly mistakes. Fortunately, there hasn't been too many.

Tomiyasu was great at thwarting Salah too. Maybe got beat once.

Why was Zinchenko not in the squad?

We'd need to spend nearly 200 million alone just to acquire those two

Much of the spotlight in last summer's signings was on White and Ramsdale, given their price tags and being English etc. Tomiyasu however has been a gem of a signing.

Quiet, efficient, professional. Can play RB, or LCB, rarely beaten in the air. Brave call by Arteta to put him at LB ahead of Tierney to nullify Salah when he cuts inside onto Tomi's natural right side. Put this bloke anywhere and he just gets shit done, fantastic defender and brilliant to have the versatility in defence that we now have.

IMHO Tomi and Saliba are our best defenders. Tomi is so versatile, and he can pass with both feet which is a huge bonus. I think he's probably going to be best as a CB, given his physical strengths and his size.

The handball interpretation changed at the beginning of this season (or last I can't remember) but it's basically "use a common sense approach".

If the player is in a motion were the ball hits the part of their body that could be handball (e.g. below the sleeve) the umpire looks at two things:

1. Was the natural motion the player the reason for the position of the hand for the handball? Or was the movement a deliberate attempt to "make the body of the player bigger" to impede the ball?

2. Was the contact with the ball to the players hand unavoidable due to proximity?

I think the Gabriel was safe on both of those interpretations.

And Zinchenko was under an injury concern, I think that's why he didn't play midweek either.
