Was around town today, Gooners everywhere with an extra skip in the step. Shirts, hats etc. Time for a celebratory beer....

How often are we ever going to be in a position where we are the only team interested in a player, and therefore the only team bidding on them. It's just not going to happen with quality players.

As for Mudryk, it didn't need to be a bidding war. We could have just offered what they, the selling club, wanted. If we matched Chelsea's bid Mudryk would be with us right now.

You make it sound like we missed on this transfer for the sake of a couple of mil. Chelsea offer completely blew ours out of the water.

If you believe reports we offered 70m with an additional 20-25m in bonuses that were hard to achieve and would have required Mudryk to be a world class player. Chelsea also offered 70m but with very achievable bonuses that will most definitely take the final fee to 90-95m. On top of that they offered an extra 100k a week over at least 7.5 years potentially 8.5. So not only is the transfer fee potentially an extra 25m, they also offered him a contract that will equate to an extra 52m.

What were the bonuses?

An extra 100k is ridiculous, can't argue with that. Though if we had put up the offer earlier he'd have been our player IMO.

I work with a real life Technical Director, if they are good at their job, they have lots of deals going at the same time. They are paid to have more than one target. There is a plan A, B, and C. Arsenal have not lost out on the last winger on earth, and if we really did have £70m on the table, then trust me, we have the ability to move on the right level of talent this window.

It’s quite striking to read people having a pop at the club right now.

We’ve missed out on Buendia, Vlahovic, and Lisandro Martinez… guess who is top of the league?

Manchester City missed out on Cucurella to Chelsea in the summer, guess how many points they are ahead of Chelsea right now? Were they humiliated?

We are not top of the league because of individual brilliance, we are there because we have the best system in the league, and the best collective talent pool.

...

There are lots of top, top players with 6 months left on their deal.

Two of the top of my head: Brighton’s top scorer Trossard would click in our system, he’s 28, but we’d get him on the cheap because he’s on strike and out the side. Wilf Zaha, a monster of a player, clearly wants one last hurrah. He has 6 months left on his deal and he’d be a menace in our system.

We could look at clubs in need of cash right now… like Barcelona. They’ve pulled all their levers, they are broke, and the story is they might entertain offers for Torres or Raphina.

The world of football is about to go into meltdown money wise, there are clubs desperately seeking cash, there will be options.

Also, just look at the hot stars in Europe right now. Gnonto at Leeds cost £3.8m. Karou Mitoma cost £2.5m, he has been immense. The best winger in Europe? Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, he cost £9m.

The real issue with Arsenal right now is moving on talent before they become hot sexy talk. Lisandro Martinez was on our radar before Tavares, we passed. Mudryk was on the radar last summer, before Big Mo got injured. Those are two big misses, but really, does it matter if you are top of the league?

Who wishes we had Vlahovic over Jesus?

Who thinks Martinez is a massive upgrade on Zinny?

Who is crying that we missed out on Buendia?

No one.

Big clubs miss out on players all the time, the key is that you need to have a plan B, C, and D.

Not much I can add to the context Tomnat already responded with. It wasn’t an apples vs apples comparison between the two offers. And Chelsea are coming from a state of desperation given their form, League position, number of injuries, age profile of the squad etc etc.

The wage they offered, ridiculous stuff. The next 2-3 windows for them is going to be a clear out and it’s going to be messy. No such problems at Arsenal at the moment, that grunt work has been done cleaning up the wage bill, culture of the dressing room etc.

Arsenal have got themselves to the position we’re in by being methodical and calculated. Clearly Arteta wanted him, for a host of reasons. And in that respect, yes it’s disappointing.

However we’ve shown we can pivot to our next candidates and there’s a window of time to do so.

For now though, just remember mate we missed on Raya and landed Ramsdale. Buendia eventuated into Odegaard. Martinez to Zinchenko (who was sublime that first half this morning). Vlahovic to Jesus etc etc.

Time is of the essence though. Keen to see what develops in the coming days.

First half we were absolutely fantastic, absolutely toyed with spurs and it was glorious to watch.

2nd half spurs gave it a go and played pretty well tbh, we weren’t as good. But apart from mins 45-60 I didn’t really think they’d score, could have easily got 1 in the first 15 mins of the second half though. If they did it would have been a huge test as it would have got the crowd so razzed up.

Brilliant derby win Gooners
